Episode 13: 'Twas the Fight Before Christmas

        Another Christmas Loud House thing?

Yep, the Loud House is doing another Christmas special in their main series, and this time another half hour.

Lynn Sr. is having back pain, not really, because he's faking to get out of seeing his brother, Uncle Lance.  Lincoln  says it's bad because he can't see aunt Sharon or their cousins Shane, Shelby, and Shiloh.  Who are they? Well don't worry long lost traveler, they mentioned that Lynn Sr. has a brother before, but now they have named him and given him a wife and family. This is their first ever appearance. I will also note they went the route of just saying that the family haven't seen each other because this but adding something not seen in the past 3 Christmas episodes, so... something.

Lincoln explains that five years prior, an event that happened. (No flashback noise) Anyway, there a game of White Elephant.  Lynn Sr. pulls out a gift and gets a spatula , one that he likes.  Lance decides to take it because sure.  The fight causes them to run around and this causes Lance's new giant ball thing to pop, and they've decided to not talk to each other. (Oh they are mad about a spatula and a ball, ok then)

Lincoln has a plan (of course) because Gramps is back (see some past season 5 and 6  and 7 Loud House episodes) and wants to get this fight over with.  The show crosses over to the other Loud House with the Lance Loud family. Lance is also faking an injury for the same reason, showing that both have a lot in common.  (They are weird)

Lincoln calls the kid cousins to talk about his plan.  Gramps sends mail to Lynn inviting the family to camp Mastodon (see season 5 and 6 of the Loud House for more)  and then the rest of the plan falls into the place.  Lance and Lynn are very mad and don't want to stay but they are easily convinced to say. (Weak)

The episode has Lance vs Lynn take over a plot for a bit. Enjoy the ride. The kids aren't happy about this. Gramps brings his two sons to get a tree and they remember the times when Gramps had strange times getting a tree down. They bond over that and seem to get along now. (Nice try episode, I see the run time)  Lance, the big guy who likes athletic  stuff is afraid of spiders and grabs a spatula to take it down and it was a new spatula owned by Lynn. (Man owns a restaurant, he shouldn't be this attached to one) This re-causes their fight because look at the run time. (see)

Lynn gets mad and Lance did seem worried, but it seems Lynn was un thinking and decides to destroy Lance's new ball. Then once again, back into fighting mode.  The two men decide to split up stuff, and have separate things.  Lincoln has a new plan.  Shelby thinks of a new plan, meaning an old plan from sitcoms where they are going to get a new spatula and new ball and pretend Lynn got Lance the ball and Lance got Lynn the spatula and hope that works. (It will not)

Lori, Lincoln, and Shelby go on a ride to the store and get lost.   Meanwhile, the siblings hide their siblings are gone. Also some weird tree power-lifting tradition. The trio gets stuck on  breaking ice lake and now are stuck. This causes Lance and Lynn to have to go and help them.  The two fathers put aside some stupidity to help not lose 18% and 33% of the kids to the cold grip of icy drowning death.

The bros have made up and everything is all happy in a neat little bow.

This is an alright episode.  The feud has a stupid reason, but many feuds have stupid reasons. It's an interesting idea to delve into Louds beyond the main core family. The show added a gramps earlier  and now extending out Lynn Sr.'s family. This was handled alright, though it might be a little strange to just see a random new family, but it was an interesting piece.

I like how the feud never extended into the rest of the family,  it wasn't the wives- who oddly seemed to sink into the background- or the kids. That was good to keep it clear and also show that again it was really a dumb feud.

I do feel the feud scenes went too long, like yes I got the point.  They did two in both halves.  Some of it did get some good jokes in,  so at least there was that.

It's a sweet Christmas episode, I think not the strongest Christmas output for the show, but it's not a bad episode.  The first one doesn't have a lot going on either, but there it kind of feels cozy and glides through what it needs to do to make a story, here it does fill itself out with the feuding. It's at least better in keeping the bickering contained than say, the Thanksgiving episode.  Honestly, this should have been a Thanksgiving episode, just to balance the show's run of Christmas stuff out.   It still gets a nice message of family out and the ending was sweet.  They also had Shane and Luna do a song because special.

I give this a  7/10 for the first half and 7.5/10 for the 2nd  so 7.25/10 for the whole thing. Not bad.

That's it from us, Merry Christmas, don't get mad over something stupid.
