The Really Loud House: Season 2: Episode 17: A Tale of Three Parties

 The Really Loud House Nickelodeon

Episode 17: A Tale of Three Parties

Lincoln, Lucy, and Lori want to host different parties at the house.  Lori wants to do a masquerade party, Lincoln wants to do a G-rated gambling party thing (modern rated G, we used to be a real country), and Lucy wants to summon the dead. On that last one, Lynn Sr.'s reaction is say hello to Grandma, and I'm proud of that.  The parents decide to have all 3 parties at the house - a triple decker party.  Blood  Moon  Party (Lucy) is in the basement, The Candy Slam Party (Lincoln) is in the attic, and The Masquerade Ball (Lori) is downstairs in the house.

Glad the episode found a simple solution to modern problems.  Lincoln loses his partner and seeks to find a new one.  The charm of this episode is the little stories it has in each  part of the parties and how the parties intersect. It's not really an a-plot, b-plot story there's more connective plot vignettes that come together.   Instead of me going beat by beat and trying that out, let's do something a little different.

I really like how each party has its own look, feel , and setup.   The Cany Slam is pretty colorful and fun giving off a fun gambling vibe. (What?) Then , Lori's party has the very classic feel to it and very classy to fit the fun of a masquerade.  Lucy's party isn't too dark for a party where they are trying to summon the dead.  There's also structure to these parties.  Lincoln's has a wall of rules which are funny and play well into the plot. Lori's party is also a party where one has to figure out who is behind the mask, which a) allows for funny moments, b) a very interesting competitor.  Lucy's needs a certain amount of people to raise the dead. She also has the smallest party.

I have to say the main plot weaves in this episode are: Lori wants to win her masquerade party , but a mysterious challenger is messing things up for her.  She also wants to dance with some Bobby [had to say it like that] but he wants to join Lincoln's party. (Sounds like a man in 1860)  Also thanks to deviled eggs -which should always be transported safely-  Lincoln ends up with a new partner Dante, from Lucy's party.  Boris ends up in Lori's party and Lincoln's party. Then Lucy steals Rusty too.

Lori loses at her own party. Tries to use Bobby to cheat, that again doesn't work. I'm going to say I figured out that Lynn was the mystery girl from the start, mostly because there were clues in the start when Lori says she wouldn't win the party anyways and a girl cheering when Leni is revealed.  I think it was a really a fun ride to see how she played the role so well with some great misdirection and a sense of uncertainty to who the person could be. Plus, Lynn did a great job having a fake alibi to make sure no one would see who it was, even seeing her not at the party well done.

Lucy kidnaps Lincoln's friends  and we get an interesting unseen Lucy moment. Here she is sad. She apparently fears that her friends will become normal and they'll not want to be around her anymore.  Which is where this version of the show again touches on things the main show doesn't.  Lincoln gives a heartfelt speech to assure Lucy.  It's a sweet moment.

This is a really fun and well done episode. I liked the moments and how the story worked. It went with directions I wasn't expecting either , especially with Lucy's plot there.  Lori's reaction to Lynn's win was pretty neat too, and liked how she ended up impressed.  Thought it might be a little much that Lynn somehow wins anything she puts her mind too and is able to play cello and dance, but in away it's an interesting direction for her character instead of having her stuck to sports ideas.

There's a lot of  little funny moments this episode that are great to see and enjoy. Lori's reactions to the party are funny.    It was a fun little episode. I give it 8/10.
