The Loud House Nickelodeon
Episode 2a: Child's Play Funny enough, it's not an episode about an evil possessed doll. The goal of the episode that Luna and her band mates want fancy new speakers but don't have enough money. They get the idea to do children's parties from Luan and Mr. Coconuts. (There is no evil possessed doll this episode, but there is a dummy) This plan isn't smooth sailing since the toddlers don't like their loud music. The episode decided to reuse a song from season 3. (I'd have the band pay me for traumatizing me) The episode also has an increased use of the male bandmate, Sully, which is interesting. (also minus 0.9pts for the gas stuff, that's a rule)
Anyway, they hear Lilly singing a song and steal it (harsh words) and use it to success, they decide to listen to Lilly to make more songs to appease toddlers and slightly older younger kids. Katherine Mulligan shows up to say she exists and has a niece named Adeline, not to be confused with Adelaide, not to be confused with Add a line and get your T-Moblie bill cut by 30%,. She wants to hire the band to do something for her niece on her apparently local morning show. (start your day with a hot steaming cut of Katherine, what?) She's offering big money. (How much money does a random local station in a small market have for small town teen band?)
She wants them to have a new song. (Katherine likes her breaking news exclusive, sorry, if you've been shot, she's already covered one of those, so...you're just gonna have to be harmed a different way next time.) Luna and her band can't just make a new song (they are creatively bankrupt) and they find out that Lilly isn't home. (how convenient for a plot) Sully thinks they should go out stalk [my words] toddlers to find out a song.
Then Sully gives them a better idea to have them tap in their own child like thoughts and they are able to make a song that makes Katherine and everyone happy. The Moon Goats are get their speakers and things seem to be going well.
The episode was a good outing for Luna. It still was doing Luna and music, because that's what they have for her, but (big but) they at least didn't do the same model as before. I think again, the episode is alright, it moves smoothly. Oddly, the episode doesn't seem to lean into any tension, except maybe them getting the speakers, but that's as far as it goes. That's not saying it's a bad episode, that's more just it's not a very sink into your teeth episode. It functions well though. I think it's good it's 7.3/10 for me.
Episode 2b: Force of Habits
Everyone has a habit of something, except for me. [That's the twist] The episode finds a way for Lori to be home -during these uncertain times, wait sorry, umm during a time when she would be in golf college, and that's a weekend. She's going to meet with Bobby who is also conveniently in town at the same time. (how convenient!)
The episode also goes for a bond with the eldest three Loud sisters, and their relations - with other people. It starts with a "girl chat" like feeling of them talking to each other. Leni mentions that she noticed that her boyfriend, Gavin, (mom, they gave another Loud a boy/girl friend! and had it stuck! Another one! Oh my, I can't believe it oh,) has a flaw. (he puts peanut butter in the fridge?) He snorts when laughs. (oh, ok then) Who's Gavin?
The other two girls say that their mates don't have annoying habits. [that means they'll totally will] Leni uses a magazine to find out how to deal with Gavin's annoying habit. (She's going to hit him with the magazine, and say "bad Gavin, look at what you've done!") Well then, guess what? Lori and Luna find out that Bobby and Sam have "annoying habits" because it was put into their minds. Once again showing that we live in a society. The habits are interesting, we know Bobby, apparently the one that annoyed Lori is apparently he sings randomly. Like, ok then, Sam has the problem of being in decisive. Also, episode, don't make me Bing search on if you can enter a movie after it started, I'll just take away 0.1pts for your mistake and continue.
It's like finding out a flaw you didn't see before then it drives you mad. The sisters talk to each other and consult the magazine (this is a bad idea) to tell their other-halves their flaws. The episode will flip when Bobby, Sam, and Gavin tell Lori, Luna, and Leni their flaws. What worked in this is the episode shows Luna and Leni doing their flaw at various points, so it rewards paying attention. For Bobby, he went for the low hanging fruit of Lori saying literally. (Weak, but funny, conflicted)
Apparently the Loud sisters can dish something but can't take the same meal back. That drives some nice tension into the episode and I like that they were given a fair chance to do the same. I think both sides were trying to help each other, but it didn't go well. The two sides break up into different parts. Lori then starts to realize that maybe they felt hurt by the statements after realizing that she felt hurt by what Bobby said. It is quick , but it works.
The message is a simplified here that's fine, sometimes you have to get used to a habit that someone else has because we all have them, as long as they aren't hurting anybody or themselves. ( It's interesting that the show did that message again... hmmmm, they can't sneak things pass me)
This episode works where it works and does some good small details. It does take a message we've seen before in the show, but at least makes it creatively different to make it work. I think it works to extent there. The ending was weird, a bit. It works with it's story well, there's nothing that makes it bad so... there we go. I give it 7.2/10.
That's it for now, tune in next time when we tell some teenagers to get off the merry go round, it's my turn.
