The Loud House: Season 3: Episode 5: City Slickers/Fool Me Twice

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

    Episode 5a: City Slickers

This was the first episode to feature Ronnie Anne and Bobby after they were sent away. I'm using that load bearing phrase on purpose. Let's pretend, for a second, unless you don't know that there was no spinoff. This episode here seems to bring back characters who were gone really from anything having to do with the show since that episode. (Yes, there was also Back out There, but that's not heavily Ronnie Anne focused)  By this point of when they made this episode it does fell they were considering a spin off in the works. I say when it was made versus when it aired because animation takes time, but I will point out this episode aired in the US on February 9, 2018.  One month later, on March 6, 2018, a spinoff was announced with these characters.

With the power invested in me (what?)  let's spot some things. Also, let's actually get into the episode a bit. Lori is driving to the big city (she's going to see Bill, Cricket, Tilly, and... wrong big city, fine) because she wants to see Bobby because her plans were to eventually move to the city to go to college there. (Uhh) Breaking away from keeping the episode in a bottle for a second (oh here we go): That was before someone thought up golf college.

Lincoln is with here because reasons. I mean yes, I know he's Ronnie Anne's friend but it's still reasons. We also get a fake version of the "That Girl" intro which if you knew the show that wasn't even the first intro, pay attention.  Lincoln imagines the fun that will happen because Ronnie Anne will prank him. (So he's a masochist? freaky)

The episode wants you (yes you) to remember the Casagrandes since it had been 80 years (not really , but 80 is a round number to get your attention) and seems to do a sequence to re-introduce them to by how they how they are in a quick moment. It's a nice way to do it  and doesn't feel forced, so good work.

Now it's time to play a game. It's called "Spot how this can be a spin-off?!" The game where we look at the episode and see what things were they working on for spin-off action.  #1 Ronnie gets a phone call from someone named Sameer.  She wants to take the call later, but thankfully Lincoln asks a question and her Aunt Frida is ready to answer. (thanks for that) The woman mentions that Ronnie Anne has a group of friends. Oh.  There we go setting up something for Ronnie Anne having some peoples in the city. Also, also the last episode she was in during the last season, was the one where they also introduced a group for Lincoln, therefore, copying.  Back to the spinoff thing, this is evidence 1, Your Honor.

Bobby works at the family store and has to do some work there and can't spend the day with Lori, even though that was part of the plan of the episode, but fine. Lori decides she can spend a day in the city to get ready to be a city girl.

It is kind of fun to see Ronnie Anne and Lincoln's interactions, that's something that's grown. Lincoln wants to see the city. (They want to see the sheep that lives there that's being chased by a general)  Ronnie Anne is peer pressured into doing it.

From the clues in this episode, I'm sensing that Ronnie Anne wants to hide something. (Oh no, she's committing tax fraud?) Then there are some children calling her, three of them, and these might be the friends that were mentioned earlier. (I honestly thought the aunt was lying, what? don't look at me, fine back to him) Earlier, Lincoln got Ronnie a Royal Woods hoodie that says RW on it, but then Ronnie Anne takes it off when the other kids show up, so I wonder....

How can this be a spinoff #2 : They gave the kids names, OK that's weaker, but it setting up more than if didn't even see them at all, it makes for a strong case.  Anyway,  Lincoln introduces himself and finds she hasn't really talked about him much to them. (To be fair, she was put on a bus and didn't know if she would get off)  Lincoln asks if they want to hang out with them and this seems to be something Ronnie Anne didn't want.

Meanwhile, Lori finds out the truth about cities: they aren't fun. Back to the other plot. (This is drive by episode there it needs to calm down) Ronnie Anne is hiding that she's not from the city and that Lincoln isn't from the city. (And she does it like an unwell person) Lincoln's not an uptown boy living in his uptown world.

Back to Lori, and her never mind, back to the Lincoln/ Ronnie Anne plot. I'm taking off like 0.5 pts for them doing the quick Lori then anyway scenes it's hurts , stop that. Lincoln then becomes suspicious and then he asks if he can borrow her hoodie. Then he pulls her aside and figures out that she is hiding she's from Royal Woods because reasons.  Then they have a spat and he leaves.

How can this be a spinoff #3? (Now with aging badly action!) Lori, yes they spend more than 5 seconds with her this time, cries in Bobby's arms that she's not made for the city after all and doesn't want to move there. Bobby says what about their plans, for her to move there and they were going to college together.  If that doesn't spell like spin off bait then really, get your nose checked. Though, in the framing of what happens in the series, they changed those plans because golf college.

Ronnie Anne talks to Lincoln to apologize. Lincoln moralizes to her  to say that if they are her friends they won't mind she's not from the city. (They might be mad she lied to them and also might think she's a Cleveland Browns fan.) Ronnie tells them the truth and they don't seem to mind, so good I guess.  Then the episode speed runs to the final day where everyone is going out and Lori seems a bit more happy to he a city girl.  Also minus 0.1pt for ending with the words "horse butts".

Basic plot, basic moral for Ronnie Anne, Good episode, sometimes did some weird bisecting of Lori's plot only to quickly go back to plot A, which is funny since the episode started with making one think it was Lori's plot that was going to get focused. Shows hints of what they had planned for spin off future.  It's fun.  I give it 7.4/10.

Episode 5b: Fool me Twice

The series makes you question some sanity of how there are three April Fool's Days in one year , since they didn't skip up yet, and well... yes.  This episode shows all the other Louds getting to extreme to get away from Luan because of her she goes crazy holiday. They are looking for a plan to evade her craziness. (Sometimes violence can be the answer)  Also, I don't know if there was a joke that Lynn doesn't know Guam is part of the United States or they actually didn't know. They get a dumb idea (or something) from a movie being shot.  That is to have doubles pretend to be them.

So yes, the logical plan here is to have stunt doubles take their place because sure. They teach their stunt doubles to act like them.  Then they sneak out of the house let the doubles take over and what could go wrong? They hide in the garage and get to see the action of how the day will go from screens. They notice that so far, nothing is happening.  Then they find out that Luan had another plan: that was apparently to speak at the right time , oh wait I mean, She somehow knew about the doubles and used them for her advantage.  Then she locks them in the garage. (Which is a) kidnaping arrest her! and b) a fire hazard, arrest her!)

Luan's plan is to have the doubles embarrass the real characters because that's really a prank and not insane instead. (And she's done insane pranks before) Just the plan itself seems kind of dark and awful for Luan to do and somehow worse than her using her sister's food allergy as part of a one in season 2. It would actually make this a weak episode, but then it does something to save itself.

Luan comes back home and notices her family is moving because they were embarrassed out of town and feel their lives have been ruined.  Luan is sad and she decides that she'll do anything and she promises not to prank anymore. Then the family says April Fool's and there's even a nice edition (in a twisted since) that the stuff on the moving truck was hers.

Overall, the episode is alright. In the April Fool's canon of the show, which it didn't have an episode about that in season 4, of the first three I think it's not my favorite of the three. The 2nd one I like more just because it's an unhinged fun of an episode, and the season 1 episode is simple and sweet, so this one kind of loses.  I do like how the family gets back at her in this one, to keep it from being a miserable episode.  Though, one shouldn't take these episodes too seriously.  There is a charm to her being a bit mad , and this plan really was the most harsh of them, but it works for this episode. I give it 7.5/10.

That's it for now ,  tune in next time when I talk about season 4's April Fool's episode where Luan uses a chain saw and hockey mask. April Fools!
