Episode 17: Operation Popstar  (22 minute special)

This special starts with a long version of the Casagrandes theme which is amazing because everyone is usually so annoyingly short with their stuff so it's something nice to make the special more special. ( I wish the Christmas special did something special, rude) This is also a music based special because network is doing music themed programming. (maybe they miss MTV)

There's a music festival in the big city. So apparently K-POP band 12 Is Midnight is going to be there and pop star Alisa. (Whom you may remember from a past episode of this show)  In speaking of a past episode, Carlota is going meet  with Alisa at the hotel because they know each other. (pay attention) Carl tells Carlota that since they are friends that  means Carlota could be famous too.

The special goes out and shows us the viewers that being famous isn't just the fun part of being famous and popular, but also the work that goes into pop stardom, it's their job after all; this plays into the episode's plot as Carlota notices how much work Blake, Alsia's manager, puts on the singer.  Alsia mentions that she's feeling drainied and that she misses being home. So this inspires Carlota, with the agenda set by a "devil Carl" (a cartoon classic) to have Alisa come to the Casagrande apartment, where she's not doing for the goodness but more for  trying to get cozied up to the pop star for fame.

Meanwhile, the other plot is Ronnie Anne and Sid want to get autograph from their favorite KPOP singer, Yoon Kwan. Alsisa comes over the Casagrande apartment and this connects the Alsia/Carlota plot with Ronnie and Sid's: Carlota leaves her make up bag at the hotel, and 12 is Midnight is spending their time at the same hotel and same floor as Alsia. (Uhh convenient?)   Ronnie Anne and Sid volunteer to get the bag because reasons not having to do with being helpful.

K-pop poppy pop stuff. Ronnie Anne and Sid use the key card given to them by Alisa to get into the hotel room and then do the logical thing of crawling through the vents. (1. What's with media and vent crawling, and 2) Don't try this at home or places)   Sid really likes Yoon Kwan maybe a little too much; I fear for the pop star's safety. Of course, the vent holds up the two girls until it can't for plot reasons and they fall on Yoon Kwan when he's doing stretches and they give him amnesia. (Next time on Days of our Casagranes, Yoon Kwan still can't remember who he is , but also is that his evil twin coming to town? Next time on these CW stations)

Alisa decides to have to have some fun doing normal people stuff and decides that normal life is what she wants and decides that she wants to quit. (Can she do that? There's contracts and junk right?) She says it in song form, so that's fun.  This song is pretty well done and enjoyable.  Carlota's first concern is that she might be able to have some fame shadows because this episode needs Carlota to learn a lesson.

More after the jump

Previously on Port Casagrandes, Carlota wakes up from her coma (ugh she fainted) and finds out that life is not a dream, but actually Alsia said she's quitting music to be a normal human being.  This means the logical step of messing with the woman to make her not like normal life. (Don't do this either) They do this by giving her a small apartment, that she seems to like, even though the plan was to make her not like normal life.  Good thing Carl wrote his plans down this good for later. (When he has to meet the judge) Anyway, after all this work to make her not like real life, I wonder what could go wrong?

Sid and Ronnie Anne try to help Yoon with his memory but he doesn't trust Ronnie and Sid, because who would?  He also is disturbing by Sid using a cardboard cut of himself.  The idea is to get Yoon to Sid's house to maybe fix is memory. (In some places this is called kidnapping?)  Ronnie Anne and Sid try to teach Yoon about his group , and we the viewers finally learn the names of the other stars that we won't remember because memories are hard. Yoon Kwan doesn't like the idea of pressure and runs away.

It's that time! Yes where things go wrong.  Good thing Carl wrote his plans down because Alisa finds it and now Carlota has to tell the truth, and Alisa tells Carlota that she wasn't being a friend to her the whole time, which is true.

Yoon threatens to use a pigeon on Ronnie and Sid (in some countries we call those guns)  Good thing his band mates have chipped him and found him. (What?)  This apparently happens frequently. (What?)  They have one solution to fix the problem: the power of music!

Anyway, Blake shows up and Carlota stands up for Alisa which at least shows that she understood what she did wrong.  (I'm happy for her) Also Carlota commits assault. (Awww) Meanwhile Plot 2 and this plot meet up as the Kpop group is singing to fix Yoon's memory. Alisa goes to check it out. Good thing Yoon is back to memory. Then the episode has a song with Yoon and his group singing and now Alisa joins in.   This song is pretty fun and well done, I enjoyed it.

Alisa decides to go back to music and Ronnie Anne and Sid get autographs.

This was a great special, I enjoyed the atmosphere and plots were good. Carlota's arc of her being selfish to use Alisa to be famous was well done, and a good use of the one old plot idea of a famous person being tired of being famous and wanting to quit. Carlota letting into her dark side and then realizing her mistake was well done.  Ronnie and Sid's plot was pretty fun and a great comic addition and the writing tied both plots together well in this music themed special.  It's a good special I give it 8/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we wonder where's the J Pop fun?
