Episode 15a: Grub Snub
This episode is about Lincoln and his friends getting into a turf war with Leni's friends which is not a sentence one normally writes about this show. (Unless this is silly) The episode starts in set up quickly it shows Lincoln and his friends being comfy and the episode sets up that this feels like this spot is special for this group. Then Leni and her friends show up and the perfect metaphor is set up when they join Lincoln's friends and squeeze them in the booth. [Also I think this is the first episode to show Gus of Gus' Games and Grub]
The tension continues when Leni and her friends are still there and the stuff Lincoln and his friends were doing and Lincoln tries to convince them to get them to change their mind. Leni says that place is the place that works for her entire group. We also get a "Braveheart" reference and now Lincoln organizes a plan to stop them from coming back. This plan, of course doesn't work. Leni and her group find out that Lincoln+ friends were trying to get them out and they get an idea to have a competition to see who gets to use the place forever.
Now the games begin, this is a great part of this episode, also I'm still wondering shouldn't Leni, Fiona and Miguel be working at some point? The rounds go back and forth with different winners from the different teams. This episode easily could have said Lincoln was wrong or even Leni was wrong but they went for a nice medium ground instead, though you might be rooting for your own winner.( The montage is fun.)
It goes too far when they compete on the not "Dance Dance Revolution" game and end up destroying the whole place. The episode ends with both sides apologizing and then fixing the place up. Also some weird giant booth somehow and ends with Leni and Lincoln flying out the door. The episode is an episode, yep. There's a strangeness to this episode that made it kind of confusing on how to react to it. It's not bad just kind of interesting to its approach it's a fun episode. I give it 7/10.
Episode 15b: She's all Bat
A dynamic you don't expect in this show is Lola and Lucy being in the goth club together. So apparently, the principal of the school decides that he wants to enact an old law from 1874 because we need this plot to plot somehow. The rule states that a club has to have 7 members, because the rule saw the plot and figured that Lucy's club only has 6 members and well that means they need to find a 7th member. (math!)
After a montage, it falls to Lucy to convince Lola, who says yes, because yes. So the plot becomes Lucy is jealous that Lola is getting attention in her club plot. I like how it's not Lola doing anything she normally wouldn't do, it's not intentional it's more that Lola is just by nature more showy. It's a good way to show that sometimes happens. The episode has Lucy do plans to get Lola to leave the group, while her friends seem to like the stuff Lola's doing. Lola is also unaware that Lucy isn't happy with this.
The episode does enough to not make it feel that Lucy is going too far and make you not sympathies with her, there's a fine line and they met up to it without crossing. The episode comes to ahead when Lucy makes another plan pretending to be an undead pageant girl and a crow destroys the disguise. Lola leaves and quits and Lucy feels bad.
The ending has Lucy apologize and tell Lola she was jealous. Now, I thought this episode was just randomly throwing in Lisa's voice for atmosphere, but it comes into play because Lola says she understands that Lucy was jealous of her because she's sometimes jealous of Lisa. It's an interesting little moment, but I'm glad they fit that in because it also gives something to Lola as much as Lucy. This was a good episode too, it's 7/10.
That's it for now, tune in next time when we found out that I wanted to join the goth club, but Leni's friends kept threatening me.
