The Casagrandes Season 1 : Episode 7: Operation Dad

The Casagrandes  Nickelodeon

Previously:  Carl goes to the zoo, you can read that here.  Now Our "The Casagrandes" journey continues with  episode 7.

Episode 7: Operation Dad

Slightly randomly, at least to me,during the Casagrandes episodes of season 4 of "The Loud House", the series now mentions Ronnie Anne (and Bobby's Dad) apparently, he is alive, but the parents are divorced and he's in Peru. Which is a convenient way to explain why the never mentioned him until before that moment.  Now, the dad being a character of existence changes it from being maybe a character who doesn't exist or a show where a character sometimes wonders about a deceased love one, to instead have the idea of a father being away (in the safe way) because of his job.

The introduction in "Friended!" did seem a  lot more jarring in the same episode where Sid's introduction felt more natural and she flowed in well. That's a least my opinion that I felt he was more forced into the show than naturally felt.  This episode about this character and Ronnie Anne's goal to change things.  This is also the first 22 minute episode.

Ronnie's father calls her to say that he is coming to town because HQ for his work happens to be in the same plot convenient city. Ronnie Anne says to Bobby she wants their father to move to the city and be with them, but Bobby says the message of saying just have fun while their dad is there instead of trying schemes and stuff. You know, she's not going to listen to that, and I know that. It does show he accepts the situation as it is, and would rather not change the boat. The  cousins are brought into a plan to keep him in the city because reasons.

There's also a running gag with Arturo, the dad, getting thrown around in a taxi. The Grandfather seems annoyed that Arutro is showing up.  Also Maria and Arturo are awkward and she gets the heck out of this episode as quick as she could.  (She's the smartest one)  Ronnie Anne's plan to psychologically get him to stay doesn't work because we have 14 minutes left and need this to continue. That doesn't stop us from having a montage of her now spending a day with her dad as some way to convince him to stay.  Now, she decides to ask him to stay another day or to move to the city. He says no. If this was an eleven minute episode then we would be done and everyone's going on their merry way.  It's not so, so wait there's more.

Ronnie Anne is annoyed that her father would rather be with his patients in Peru than her, in her mind that's her logic. Unintentionally, Sid gives her an idea, an awful wonderful idea.  Her idea is now to convince him that she's gone downhill and that would convince him to stay.   That didn't work so they make Ronnie Anne act all  "punk" because yes.  Sid has a monkey in her locker because reasons.  Ronnie Anne and her non-Sid friends pretend to be bad to convince Arturo; that Ronnie Anne is bad.  Now he can see her  fakeness as much as we can.

The father says he'll try and stay because also reasons.  Now Ronnie Anne sees some letter her father has from kids in Peru and decides to let him go and she's learned that he does some important things. So, the next day he goes to the airport, but in the taxi he sees some pictures and decides that he wants to stay after all, and yeah  that made sense.  Oops, who's going to tell Maria this news.

   More after the jump

This is episode is an alright one. They did give the viewer interest in to what Ronnie Annie's motivations were even if the viewer barely knows the father character, we can at least understand Ronnie Anne's actions and motivations.  If he's going to be in future episodes it will be interesting to see how he's integrated into the cast.

I  like the touch that showed that Bobby was more "mature" in a way to kind of accept things as they were because he might understand some nuances of the divorce and things that Ronnie Anne might not, and the idea of trying it before and it not working.   Another thing it does well is not say that anyone is wrong or right because it is a complex issue. Ronnie Anne's way s may have not been the best way to get at it, but it doesn't mean she was in the wrong and Arutro had a hard choice both ways effecting someone. They gave it a way to make the viewers think a little. I give the episode 8.5/10.
