The Casagrandes Season 1: Episode 4: Snack Pact/ The Horror-Scope

The Casagrandes Nickeloden

Previously, on the Casagrandes:  Ronnie Ann and Her mom can't find each other, can you help?!  Read that here

    Now to episode 4

        Episode 4a : Snack Pact

One of the established things about the Casagrandeses is that the grandmother, Rosa, likes to cook and feed her family.  This episode starts with her family being hungry while she is trying to make dinner.  Ronnie Anne then introduces to her family that she got a tamale from a tamale truck. (Yum)  The rest of the family freak out because Rosa doesn't like her family eating outside food. (What is this, Yankees' Stadium)   Ronnie Anne gives her family a taste of the tamale and they seem to really like it.

The goal of the episode of the episode is to hide their love of the tamales from Rosa, or she will not cook for  the. Ronnie Anne plans around Rosa, to make sure she doesn't find out and they can have their tamale fun. (What does that mean?)   The fun of the episode is outlandish it gets with how they try to get tamales and distract Rosa.

Then the family bird, Sergio, blackmails the family so he won't tell Rosa that they are eating someone else's food. (This sounds insane out of context)   So, they appease him for awhile then try to send him to Peru. (Logical)  Eventually, it becomes a mess as they try to send him away. Rosa sees what happened.  Then the family, confesses to Rosa that they've been going to a tamale truck. The twist is it's her recipe.

It's a strange and funny episode and seeing them all be so enamored  by the tamales to the point of hiding them and letting a bird black mail takes you through a ride.  It's not something I was expecting from the episode but glad they did it. The ending that it's Rosa's recipe puts cherry on top.    I give it 8/10.

More after the Jump

Episode 4B : The Horror Scope.

Here's something has nothing to do with the episode as a critique but more as a universe thing. (Is that the right term)   I know some of you may have already watched "The Loud House" and were interested in its spin off series, but maybe haven't really checked it out yet.  Others, might be interested my thoughts, even though I'm not a fancy television critic, I don't know. There are people who would also not be fans of the Loud House but may want to check this series. (There's gotta be at least a couple!)   There are people never watched anything saw this new show and thought, what the heck is this?  There is slight reason for this babbling. So far, the spin off has stood on it's own though not fully, because it's a spinoff.  The hard thing with a spinoff is it's selling characters you met on a "parent" series and giving them their own spotlight in the hopes that fans of the "parent" series would want to watch this series. Like a built in audience. (Thank you for staying with me so far, I'm expressing a really long thought here, and I'm worried)   What was the point of that?  If you are reading this for the purpose of maybe wanting to check out this show, but have no prior knowledge of "The Loud House" How does this episode episode work?  For everyone else though, I thank you for staying along and reading this part.

In this episode, Rosa was watching some sort of astrology show and invites Ronnie Anne to watch with her.  Ronnie Anne doesn't really go for these things but watches with her. The man on the show gives predictions and guess what, he goes for Ronnie's Anne sign. (Convenient plot  is convenient)  He says people with the sign like  Ronnie  Anne's will find love. Ronnie Anne shrugs this off.

The plot convenience phone call happens with Lincoln Loud calling her. (Pause)  For the people I mentioned that might be wanting to check out this show and never were into the Loud House or never watched it does this scene at least make it where they could get a grasp of who Lincoln is , in connection to Ronnie Anne?   The interaction does seem to be that they are friends.   That is at least enough, to make it work.

Back to the episode, So Rosa implies because Lincoln exists, that maybe she'll find love with Lincoln.  Ronnie Anne pushes up against this and just they are just friends.  Lincoln shows up and they interact and be friends and show the audience they are friends.   I do understand, as someone who watched the other series who these characters are and likes and this episode rewards those who have watched the original series well. Like, Lincoln brings an egg from an episode I've not covered yet, but watched, named Rochelle. For people who watched the original series; this episode has fan service for them all through out.

During a walk, Lincoln tells  Ronnie Anne that a friend really likes a girl, and they've been friends for awhile  and everything he says sounds like it's him.   (we are smart enough to figure out he's not talking about himself)  Ronnie Anne  gets worried and tries to stop Lincoln from expressing his love for her.  (I what?)

Sid shows up and she already knows that Lincoln is Ronnie Anne's friend as well. Ronnie Anne wants Sid to help her make it where Lincoln don't confess his love. She doesn't want her friendship with him ruined. I'm kind of sad, there wasn't much Lincoln and Sid interaction though.   Sid has her own plot of trying to get a bird back. (What's with this show and birds?)

Ronnie Anne does everything to make sure Lincoln doesn't confess his  love.  The build up of what Lincoln has to show Ronnie Anne really gives the episode some tension, because we don't know what he wants to show her either.  Eventually, they make it to the apartment  we get a great funny moment of misunderstanding  before the the truth is understood that Lincoln wanted to show his magic act off in preparation for a talent show.

There's another reward for the viewers of the Loud house by a moment where Ronnie Anne hugs Lincoln it's a nice subtle showing of character development between the two.

First off, to those who want to check out this show and never watched the Loud House, do check out this show, give it a watch. Is this episode good for people who have never seen the Loud House? Heck yes, we get a great understanding of who Lincoln is to Ronnie Anne and if we don't know anything else, we at least understand that she values her friendship with him that she would not want it messed up by a confession of love, that she's not ready for , or thinking about. The episode has great moments of tension building, comedy, and love teasing, if that's your thing. If you are a fan or viewer of the Loud House it gives you another layer for Easter eggs (literal eggs) through the episode to show how far Lincoln and Ronnie Anne have come as friends.  For those who love their romantic shipping it gives you some fuel to fast upon. (what the heck does that mean?)  This is a good episode, they did a good job making it approachable and fun.     I give it 10/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when I read angry letters about how long this took.
