The Loud House: Season 7: Episode 8: Out of Step/ Too Cool For School

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

Episode 8a: Out of Step

This episode is about Clyde and his grandma, Nana Gayle, in a dance contest. They are trying to when comfy recliner chairs. It's the dance-off finals and there's competition, it's Chandler and his Grandma. Gee, I wonder what will happen?   Clyde knows Chandler's history and maybe the episode wouldn't pull anything special out of its hat, and doesn't trust Clyde. But Grandma McCann gives them a sense that things will go fine and there's a nice moment where Clyde shakes Chandler's hand.

The competition starts well for Chandler and his grandma they seem to be really good dancers. They get a score of 10. Mrs. Bernardo is a fun part of this episode too, she brings in the great unhinged-ness to her hosting and makes a good host for the contest. Each time the McBrides start do their rounds something bad happens, which seems to coincidental. Chandler and his grandma seem to vouch to see if Nana Gayle and Clyde can get second chances but it's not in the rules, apparently.

It's looking bad for the McBrides , are the McCanns too powerful, why did the floor open up? What's going on? Thanks to timing, Chandler and his Grandma are talking about how they did their evil plans (I'm shocked) loudly... and how they rigged things to have Clyde and Gayle go own. But wait, there's more! They are going to do it more.

Clyde wants to go back and do the same but Gayle is smarter and says no let's try to get proof to catch them . (Good thing, Chandler and his Grandma stopped talking at the time the two of them needed proof)  Gayle and Clyde follow Chandler to see that he is buying stuff for sabotage.  Then Chandler apparently gave them tea that knocked them out until morning. (What?! )

They won't be able to have proof and now for some reason Chandler and his Grandma tell them out loud about the fact they rigged the stage with obstacles.  Clyde decides that he and his grandma can go against the obstacles and  work with them for their routine.  Chandler seems to win... but wait... somehow, after dancing and moving around it seems a dress being torn by the chairs gives away the twist that Chandler's grandma is a young boy... wait no.... it's Trent, a young boy, who is Chandler's friend.  Which I think was  fun twist, and not giving Chandler a strange evil Grandma.   That means the McBrides won.

I think this was a fun episode, Clyde and Gayle make a nice change of pace for a Clyde episode and does something entertaining. Though, I already figured they won't, it would have been more fun if Chanlder and his "Grandma" were just actually good dancers , I mean he and Trent were actually good, but it would have been fun to see Chandler doing something different and that the other stuff wasn't him. They sadly went their safe route and almost are using him like Vic to be visual clue which at least  isn't fully formed yet, but still there.  The episode was fun, though and it's fine.  I give it 7.5/10.

Episode 8b: Too Cool For School

I don't like this one as much, saying that out front. It starts pretty nice and by start, I mean the first 15 seconds. Lincoln talks to you - the viewer and talking about how he's good at middle school and that was  good version of how he did to navigate around the house in season 1. That's called bait they reel you and then...  Lincoln enters the school and sees that's become that episode of Spongebob where the inside of Spongebob house froze.  Andrew is frozen in a block of ice. Why?  The principal. principal Ramirez is at fault.

She has decided to listen to a woman who calls herself and an educational specialist, whatever that means, named Astrid Bjorkundson , which I've tried to see is a real last name and only found Bjorkund so... uhhh 1/2 pt?    The Swedish woman's ideas are like hey you should freeze a school, where a whole child is frozen. I do give some things in cartoons, scratch that, in TV shows, movies too, a little room to be a little off but (big but) again she just froze school thinking that bitter cold would be good to learn in. (Good for the bills too?)   There's a child frozen in a block of ice. No.  Also, it's fine if she wants to learn new ideas make sure her school is good place for her students, but she's just taking some random women's words and going yeah that sounds great.   Astrid says freeze the school, Astrid says give fish to the students it's brain food, Astrid says take a student and sacrifice him to a god of your choice, by spilling his blood- that last one doesn't happen in the episode, but it feels like she would do that. There's a child frozen in a block of ice.

Lincoln and his friends are totally justified in their disgruntlement this episode because she made the school unhabitable.  Even dumber idea, have them do gym class while eating, because that sounds sane.   Hey kids, tell your parents that the principal freezing the school, making you run and jump while eating, the eating and running caused an accident, and there's a child frozen in a block of ice. Lincoln states the logic that the changes are ruining things because yes.  The woman told her secretary, Meryl  who really should have just quit right there, that she has to use a toilet as a chair because toilet breaks slow down work.  (Nickelodeon writers, are you alright, are they hurting you there, please send out a message) There's a child frozen in a block of ice.

The kids go the principal to tell her they think things are working, but she ignores it. She goes with a message that's for better episode, change is hard. There's a difference between change like I don't know starting middle school and a having children run while eating, eating fish too. Some changes make sense, the other is crazy and should not be accepted. There's a child frozen in a block of ice.  I hate the way she tells him too, it's patronizing, good work VA though. Then she says school will start at 6AM now, because apparently there's no committees. But ok, going with cartoon freedom for a second, that's still stupid to just change the time like that... and this is show where they had a real ghost rampage in the city. There's a child frozen in a block of ice.

The kids, instead of calling the police, have decided that since their teacher has fallen into the cult of Astrid (not even the one from How to Train Your Dragon- sad)  they have Stella dress up like Astrid and trick her into undoing changes. I wish this was the end of the episode, when everything goes back...but no we can't have nice things.  There's no longer a child frozen in a block of ice. Episode would have also been better if teachers rose up and walked out.  (Episode would have been better , if it was shown what life would like be without , it'd be the same but at least it wouldn't exist)

Because the episode mostly hurts, the only really fun moments are when Stella dresses up like Astrid and tries act like her, and a moment where Zach isn't wearing his glasses and has be turned around by Lincoln to be in the right direction.  The only highlights.  There's no longer a child frozen in a block of ice. There was still more episode.

I wish I was watching the snow out my window too

The principal decides going to go see her leader, because she has a new book out. Also, I would have been happy to have a Judy Blume parody title reference, if it's not "Fudge" or "Shelia the Great" but they had to put it in this episode, and I feel bad that it had to be put here. So, I'm going to remove 0.9pts because how dare they?   There's a kid who was frozen in a block of ice for like a couple days, his parents are worried about him, and should sue.

The friends are worried because now she'll find out that Astrid didn't say reject her old message. Stella pretends while they get the real Astrid, who has also chosen a small town in Royal Woods to tour in, at the same time a principal is using her methods some how. Guess what?  The principal figures out things because of course she would.

Oh she's mad the kids deceived her  and they even apologize.  Minus 4pts.  She even says it's her job to make sure they succeed. Oh, how is kid who is frozen in a block of ice to succeed? Huh...other questions of things that happened like accidents and etc. here. She then says the method guarantees that will happen. Minus 0.5pts. Unless this episode is saying the school system is broken and schools don't want to teach skepticism of random people who wrote books about methods, that was pretty stupid. Yes, I don't like this episode, said that already. A kid was frozen in a block of ice.

Astrid is even like "woah lady" what are you doing?  She says that student happiness is good for success and she might have to re-think it. I guess that means Ramirez a) will just listen to Astrid and keep things undone and wait for new methods b) learned nothing c) should be fired  d) redacted.

Even if you think cartoon freedom or it's a cartoon should be added here, it's still not good.  The protags (the kids) weren't wrong at all because going to school where it's literally frozen, freakin' penguins walking around, having kids run and eat- having anybody run and eat at the same time, doing rash decisions without consulting anyone as  leader of a school, making your employee miserable, a kid in frozen block of ice,  is stupid and wrong. Is it funny? no. Should I think it's funny? no.  Chandler can do mean things and even get comeuppance, because he's a child character. Bolhofner is gross and weird, but he has shown he cares about the students. She didn't address their concerns  and the episode even has the gull to have the kids apologize to her.

It's sad that this is a Lincoln+Friends episode, because I mostly likes those , and get maligned for being not what the "core show is about" or something.  I watch the episodes more than once after they air to write these posts, and I was feeling off about this one but rewatching it even made it worse for this one.  I don't like it. The only fun parts were the little gags like Rusty's hair, Zach's moment I mentioned earlier, and Stella being Astrid.  Astrid even kind of ended up being at least likeable and even understanding.  Otherwise, no... I give  it 3.1/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we say keep the thermostat set at 67 that's where you're in heaven.
