The Loud House: Season 3: Episode 25: Stage Plight/Antiqued Off

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

Episode 25a: Stage Plight

The series decided, or those that work on it decided that the Luan and Benny part of "L is for Love" should continue.  Talking about how "L is for Love" is that episode decided to give every non Lori sibling a paired Individual to be with, at least for that episode. I will point out that I was kind of disappointed they didn't take Skippy (the character they gave Lana a crush or whatever ) and bring him back as just a friend. Paige too, feels bad. The main point of that episode was really for Luna to speak to someone she had a crush on and that ending up being a girl named Sam. A slight of hand for an episode. Sam does come back and apparently so does Benny, Luan's crush.

This episode also decides to do a different thing where Luan is also now in theater and performance and not just doing jokes and stand up. (she wants to sit down sometimes too) They also make sure if you don't remember who Benny was, the episode makes sure you remember, because apparently something something.

Back to the theater thing, Luan is nervous about talking to her crush (weak) and decides the best way will be go for the "Romeo and Juliet" play the school is doing, because Benny signed up.   The episode also introduces someone who'll become a recurring character later on, the drama teacher Mrs. Bernardo. Her hammy ways make things fun but she doesn't become annoying, at least to me.  (I'm annoyed)

She also apparently thinks it makes sense to have the two families, from the story, the actors to practice separately because -oohh quirky teacher is quirky. Luan doesn't want this because Benny is with the other side, (he's on the Axis powers? nooo!) Luan decides to do switch  but we can't make this easy so they can't do things.  I don't even know who Romeo and Juliet in this play are, help. (Also the show made up a fake show that sounds worse tha most other shows) Oh never mind, I see who they are now. Apparently the guy who was supposed to be Romeo isn't working out, and the teacher decides to switch the two out.

She saw Benny and Luan interacting so well, so they are going to be Romeo and Juliet. (Would be more interesting if Romeo was Luan and Juliet was Benny)  The now the kiss practice. (I don't have to practice kissing, I'm a pro)

Oddly, we're like half way through and stuff just kind of happens. Here's something then something else, then something else. I get the goal of they are trying to write these two to be a couple but didn't have a pregame. (Not even one brought to you by Arby's - They have the meats)  Luan is nervous about kissing and thinks everyone else has.

She decides to find ways to avoid kissing Benny for the practices. (Just bring up his past misdeeds and get him fired from his daytime show)  Luan suggests that instead of actual kissing they should send each other kiss texts. (Luan would remake a movie and ruin it) Apparently, the teacher thinks this is a great idea. (because ooh quirky teacher quirky)  Benny seems to be sad that he won't be able to lock lips with the Loud.  Luan comes to practice and finds out that Benny has quit. (quitter)

Luan goes to find Benny and finds out he quit because of her and he thought she felt uncomfortable around him. Oh good there's now a scene where the two of them talk through puppets. Then they do kiss and then the play finishes and oh hey the puppets talked without their handlers, be scared!

The episode is kind of there pushing together something and it does it. They had the goal of Benny and Luan are going to get together or something but they had to find away to make a plot and there was something.  It's like awkward teenage love the plot and fits in there, messy, sometimes plot convenient, and rushed. The episode is here for the fun part of people who wanted these two to be paired and gives them a treat, more than really giving a full story of something.  It's not bad, but it's not woah 100 , best.  I give it  6.7/10.

More after the jump

Episode 25b: Antiqued Off

Season 3 started using the friends, not just Clyde for Lincoln  and even adding Stella a little more. This would trend later on in the series. I think maybe as a way to have him with 80% male friend group as a counter balance to the show having the ten sisters. Also as season 3 was doing more than season 2 in moving away from house contained plots, boy vs sisters plots, and giving the sisters more things in their own stories, this is a way for Lincoln to have something too.

This episode is weak. Boldly throwing down a statement before anything else, that's right. (I'm scared.) The very first minute Lincoln and Clyde went to a magic show and Lincoln got a some magic smoke poppers, anyway Clyde wants to go to a flea market  and Lincoln isn't interested. (apparently it's  a ticket event somehow)  There's also a flashback scene of Clyde getting ripped off on a toilet seat. Lincoln decides to lie and say he promised to be Lisa's experiment tester or something.  This will play in the episode later, so let's skip to later. (that's right we're doing this non-linear)

Lincoln later finds out that Clyde didn't enjoy the magic show and only went to the show because Lincoln wanted to spend time with him. Lincoln didn't do that for Clyde and go to something he didn't like.  I'll get back to this later, for the conclusion.

Now back to Lincoln saying he can't do it, enter Zach. Zach is part of Lincoln's friend group, and we , at the time of the episode being made, didn't know much about him. This episode could have been a nice entry way, like "Pasture Bedtime" worked for Liam kind of. But (big but) that will kind of not happen in this episode.  The good: Clyde and Zach have a good bond over antiquing (children sure love antiquing) and it's something nice to see those two bond. They should have it be where two friends from the group bond and do do stuff together. That would have made for a better plot.  The bad:  Lincoln notices that Clyde and Zach have been hanging out a lot and apparently he gets jealous- because Clyde wants to hang out with another person, their other friend.  The ugly:  That means this episode is about Lincoln being jealous his best friend is hanging out with their other friend. That doesn't even show that Clyde is forgetting Lincoln or anything. (Also paper TV guide)

Lincoln finds out about a magic show that's coming up and also remembers he has other friends.  Oh look the friends don't want to go to a magic show and make up bad lies instead. Lincoln then finds out because they all decided to go to Flip's at the same time. (sure alright)  Then this is the part where they told him that Clyde didn't enjoy going to a magic show.  I do find it hard that somehow only 16% of this group likes magic  Also saying Clyde went because he's a really good friend, and then the other three not going with Lincoln here is a weird thing to do, episode.  Lincoln thinks he's being a bad friend because he didn't go with Clyde to the flea market.

Then Lincoln says that he should have been a good friend and went anyway to flea market. Now, that's fine because Clyde went with him, but (big but) then he says that he knows that Clyde went because it makes him happy and that he's going to start doing the same. That's kind of stupid.  If Lincoln said he might give it a chance then yeah that works, or decides to be happy that Zach and Clyde have something in common and understands that Clyde is still his best friend then sure. Or going with Clyde, just to be with Clyde. But instead, it went with I don't know be miserable?  There's some good crumbs they threw out for the episode to be better, but instead they did a disservice to Lincoln's character and to Zach's too, because it would have been more fun to see him and Clyde interact, or see more of him and Lincoln, this is supposed to be their friend right?  We get jealously instead because reasons.  It could have been an episode where Lincoln hangs out with a different friend of his and maybe had one of the other ones also like magic, but no, they all don't like magic because sure. (That also comes to play... in the future)

Like I said, a weak episode. Sadly. I give it 6.5/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we sue some guy for lying to us about an antique soda machine saying it was used by  King Charles VII of France.
