The Loud House: Season 3: Episode 13: Ruthless People/ What Wood Lincoln Do?

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

Episode 13A: Ruthless People

I'm not really sure what about this episode in a more cohesive way of saying something. It starts with  Lynn going through a wall in the house and everyone finding out about termite. I'm at least they cartoon didn't have the termites be instant wood eaters, but it is weakening the house and they have to take care of the bugs. ( I will add that Lana thinks they are cute)

What's the plot?  The Louds can't find a place that can hold 13 people to stay in one spot. (Did they ask correctly? ) So they have to split up with half staying with Pop-Pop and the other half with Aunt Ruth, a character that exists because someone thought that was a good idea and didn't say no. (Just say no) The siblings don't want to go there. Rita apparently is very kind to this aunt because she  must have money. (my thought)

Lincoln ends up in the group that's going to Aunt Ruth's because plot had to do it. He thinks of a plot because of characterization. He goes to Lana to swap because maybe she can be an open way to getting there. But then...we have to make the plot go plotty so ... enter Lola. (touch down!)   Lola, calls Luna, Lynn, Lori and even the dad, he gives them the idea to make deals to switch. (Tedious)

This also seems to go well, that's this episode.  They apparently go the deal to have it where switching worked and now Lynn, Lincoln, older Lynn, Lola, and Lori get to be with Pop Pop. There we go episode came out well , what? Oh.   In a theory, I have that Aunt Ruth is a witch, (yes) the ones that switched apparently get a raw deal because everything -at the same time- is broken or not working at Pop Pop's place because um reasons. (Things are going great)

Guess what? The other half is doing great, Aunt Ruth (who may be a witch) has a lake house. (That's why Rita's so nice, lady is loaded and leaving Rita in the will)  This is a moralizing show, or at least was, but I'm not even sure what was going on here. It's like they forgot a step, like the switch was bad because Lincoln or the others lied or did something wrong.  That didn't happen, we didn't see that happen, so why (besides the Aunt might be a witch) are they getting wronged?  (eg: Lisa asks for money, she gets money to switch)

Also adding, why didn't Aunt Ruth tell anyone earlier? Why can't everyone stay at the lake house. If she cares so much about her cats, why is she there, but I don't see cats?

Lincoln decides to try a swap again, and then others join in, but then... guess what? The deals weren't bad  and the others could say no, so... but anyway,  The lake house has termites, I wonder if that had to do with Lana playing with them earlier.  (Aunt Ruth is a witch)  They have to end up at Aunt Ruth's house. I also wonder why this half couldn't have gotten a hotel, it's not all 13,  it's 6 of them, so that should be fine? But logic is dead here.

Just for fun, Pop Pop's retirement home with broken stuff has been embezzling money or using someone's life insurance because they got a cruise ship.  I also love the line of logic of not being able to fix the A/C but able to rent a cruise ship. That be like, hey the couch is broken, going to rent a Rolls Royce to sit in.

This episode isn't good.  But why isn't it good? It feels like it's missing something. Why are Lincoln, Lynn , Father Lynn, Lola, and Lori destined for bad times? Who'd they tick off? There had to be a reason, it's not even like be nice to the aunt, because the others still ended up switching away from her and getting nothing bad in return. I think they could have done something with that, or even be silly and say the aunt is a witch.  I don't know.  It's a weak episode, it feels like it's missing something and yes, it's just kind of un entertaining.  I give it 5/10.

Episode 13b: What Wood Lincoln Do?

These two being back to back is like getting two cans of soup with a broken tab. ( I want my money back!)

The fifth grade class is learning wood working, random.  Lincoln is worried about doing wood working because it makes him feel like he's about collapse. (Random)  Yes, you can understand anxiety from doing something , but (big but) the episode is not going to do anything with that at all. That's not all the episode sets up and does nothing with it.  This also could have been a nice Rita and Lincoln episode, but no screw you viewers, you don't get that either.

I would have even gone with the plot of Rita helping Lincoln, and her making sure he does the work, but no.  He has to make a step ladder, just so you remember. (I forgot) Rita does help Lincoln which is nice.  Lincoln pretends to be an idiot (at least , I hope) because he doesn't want to even try and work on the thing. Again, episode sets up something that could have worked with his mom but ...ha ha ha ha expecting something good, that's funny. She ends up doing it for him.

I'm going to point out that the episode has a scene when the students were presenting their ladders  and they aren't very good. He didn't even have to do it 100% right, but sure cool.  The teacher is impressed. The next thing, is making a bird house. (Some how that's more challenging than a step ladder?)     Lincoln decides to see if his mom can help him again.  Episode has the gall to actually say it's about the mother-son bonding, when the episode didn't even do that.  She doesn't fall of it. (can we leave now?)

Then he decides to use Walt's bird house, and that will get silly because the bird will exact revenge, also there's a more bad ideas: the teacher wants to be cheap and not buy a dresser and asks Lincoln if he could and is kind of pulled in to it. (Just say no)  Lincoln decides to buy a dresser and the silly Walt is mad at Lincoln thing comes up too and Walt helps destroy the dresser because reasons.  Lincoln decides to come clean about what happened.

Lincoln remembers thanks to Clyde's balloon story that he should have tried instead of not trying at all. He gives it a try to actually make a ladder, it's not good, but it passes, like this episode.

It's not very good because it dangles ideas that would have been and doesn't do anything. It could have been a well done episode with Lincoln and Rita working on something, use that part where Lincoln is using what Rita makes and pass it off as his and then it ends up going wrong, when he has to explain how he did something. Something better than what they did here. Didn't need Walt on a revenge mission. The episode did something alright  in showing how Lincoln did everything but try to do the work, and the part showing students sending in their projects but not being very good was a nice touch, they could have done more with that. I think the episode has stuff that could have worked, but like the ladders , they just didn't come together. Unless that was on purpose then wow.  Anyway 6/10.

Tune in next time when we build a better episode out of wood and use termites to something.
