The Really Loud House : Season 1: Episode 5: Ro-Bro

 The Really Loud House Nickelodeon

            Episode 5:  Ro-Bro

The concept of a show where a boy has only sisters does lend itself to the idea of a that boy wanting a brother for a reason. In "One of the Boys" he wishes he had brothers and the plot wanted him to regret it. I think that episode is more a gem than even I thought before, because well the events are a dream more than anything else.

This episode, Lincoln wanted a video game but isn't old enough to buy one.   He sees a boy named Johnny with older brother who is very cool.  ( I think that was a little odd)  Johnny got gift from him that same video game Lincoln wanted.  Lincoln day dreams what it would be like to have Johnny's older brother be his older brother , mostly by him being given the video game that he wanted. (brotherly love)

Lisa comes in, the next day, with an idea, she offers him an older brother.  (What?!)  A robot. (oh)  Ro-Bro (roll credits) has been programmed with a mixture of big brothers from the 1980's and 1990's movies and TV shows. (Lisa, what are you doing?)  The brother has a cool Pontiac Firebird, which is an interesting thing for Lisa to do.

The basic element of this episode is Lincoln does get his video game and starts to have fun with the robot older brother, as it would eventually turn into well a robot goes south plot.  I haven't mentioned him until now, but there is Clyde.  Clyde did want the video game he doesn't really think it's too much of a loss not to have it.  Then, when Lincoln gets happy with spending time with the Ro-Bro he doesn't seem to notice that Ro-Bro found Clyde to be a "nerd" and tries to keep him from hanging out with Lincoln and he.

It's when Lincoln realizes that Ro-Bro and with a little bit of him, was mean to Clyde. He wants Ro-Bro to apologize to Clyde, but Ro-Bro is like [American political joke removed] and now the classic robot turns bad part of the plot.  Lincoln calls Clyde to help, but Clyde is unreceptive. Lincoln does a deep heart felt apology and they do end up working to stop the robot.

    More after the jump

I am saying that the episode hits the beats of the plot as expected. The concept is classic mixture of two things where a character thinks they'd be happier with something else and ends up neglecting, by accident, someone they care about.  The other part is the robot plot where it goes wrong  and has to be stopped.

I will switch the b-plot here, it's not a big one.  Lynn Sr. every once in a while gets his neck thrown out and most of the this b-plot is him trying to be in the bathroom and yet every other Loud keeps getting in the way. Lincoln's plot runs into this with him helping his dad by accident.

Eventually, Lincoln and Clyde use friendship and the power of love to defeat the robot.  (If I befriend my computer it will close down)  Turns out this was a Lisa experiment all along (always has been) and she talks about how friendship has it's ups and downs with a Jesus Jones song playing in the background and that true friendship can last through anything. (the song is right here right now)

The episode's plot is executed well that's something you want when a plot more well worn. I think the episode was good. It had some funny moments and I repeating myself that the writing of this series  is pretty good  and nice and strong. It was a nice heartfelt episode without feeling too mushy or clinical. I give it  7.5/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we create a robot brother industry.
