The Loud House: Season 6: Episode 19: The Orchid Grief/Forks and Knives Out

 The Loud House  Nickelodeon

 Episode 19a: The Orchid Grief

A Lincoln and Clyde episode hasn't happened in awhile. Anyway Lincoln shows up wanting to get a David Steele comic made of actual steel. (In this economy? Really? With these steel prices... what the heck?) But (big but) Clyde has chores so Lincoln decides to help and they clean the house. There's an orchid there and Lincoln walks over to it and gives it some water.  Apparently, it's an orchid that's been around a long time and Lincoln apparently didn't know about it until this very episode of this plot because yes. (Cut!)

Anyway, Lincoln gives the plant some water and finds out that it already had water and that means the plant will die. (big die)  It was an orchid his father Harold gave to father Howard on their first date. (What the heck? He gave an orchid on the first date) Clyde thinks Howard will miss it with it dead. For this is a rare flower it's hard to find.

They also can't use Lisa a plot device to fix the plant because plot. (Also minus 1pt for the map of Michigan, they didn't include the Upper Peninsula. Someone might say it doesn't really matter, but it does, so yeah minus 1pt)  Anyway, Lisa tells them they can find the orchid in a swamp in Michigan.  (one second, opens different tab, checks... alright go on)  Lisa calls it harsh and unforgiving (like your ex-wife)

I do l like the joke of a giant mosquito sucking the life force out of a beaver then getting eaten by an alligator (plus 0.5pts)  They have to try and not die trying to get a flower. Eventually see the orchid. It can't be that easy there's like 5... oh hello... giant man eating plants.  They get to the orchid but then some guy comes up and grabs it and they make chase.   They end up on a boat tour for old people, and Mr. Bolfoner is apparently the captain. (Says something about our education system) he's inspired by their story of love and decides to help.

Eventually they catchup to the other boat and find out it's Harold.  Apparently, he saw the flower was missing and went out find one. He always replaces it . (he's a plant murderer) They tell Howard and he's actually happy (murderer!) because the plat was high maintenance and he's also killed the thing before and replaced it 8 times. (arrest all these murderers!)  The true moral is love isn't a flower .  Anyway boat ride to the comic book store.

This was a fun episode. It's kind of a self-aware episode, it felt that way. It brought in Lisa just to say they can't use her for the plot device. It was funny, loved the dark joke, and the fact the McBrides were all holding this flower alive because of how it was thought be the value. The message was good too, that yeah  it was a nice flower but they have their own love and love goes beyond flower but how much you care about someone like going into a deadly swamp to get a flower because you think  someone would be sad if they didn't have it. I give it 7.5/10.

    More after the jump

Episode 19b: Forks and Knives Out

I will make a comment how the episode decides to do a Lincoln and his father plot for the first time since 1982, not that long but I need to use a long time to denote this.  There have been moments of father and son, but doing an episode hasn't happened since since season 2. So thankyou episode.

In excessiveness, the show-y celeb chief Guy Grazzer sent Lynn Sr. a bobble head to tell him he's going to be on a TV show, the next day. (Was he drafted?) Luan is here she mentions that show is show where people on the show play dirty because sure. The episode also remembers that one episode where Luan and Lynn worked together on food. (They almost robbed us of Lincoln and Lynn Sr. plot!)

Meanwhile, on "Kitchen Combat" (they named a show Kitchen Combat?) and Lynn and Lincoln find out that Rosa and Ronnie Anne from the TV show "The Casagrandes" are the competition. (Ronnie wonders what are the odds, as if we are to be surprised)  This means Lynn and Rosa don't want to pulverize each other. Guy brings up the grand prize a fridge that's voice activated and can do stuff. (like probably kill)

I like that the episode sets up that they don't want to fight each other, and keeps their bond, instead of having them fight for no reason. It gives a nice weight that they are friends and care about each other. Guy is our villain by wanting them to fight. I like the work arounds they think of that fit into the rules but also still show working well.  This really keeps the episode strong.

Guy ramps up his trying to make sure they fight and do underhanded things. He puts up a whole new kitchen and this makes Lynn and Rosa fall in love with it, and decide to go after each other , after all. Ronnie Anne and Lincoln try to keep them out of the sparring until Guy somehow is able to get them with a frozen yogurt machine, because sure.

Now there's sparring.  The episode now has these two turn up against and it ramping up as the sequence goes on. Then it goes with Rosa and Lynn Sr. uninviting each other to things. Then they declare their friendship over. Then, it gets more striking when Rosa and Lynn agree to not let Ronnie Anne and Lincoln see each other where the kids stop them and realize this was stupid. Then they walk away from the show.  Then Guy gets killed by the walking talking fridge...I mean I think he's dead now.

This was  a good episode because of how well it was doing its plot. It knows the characters enough and values them to have it be done where it's not straight fight and doing wacky stuff. It knows we know the characters and values them. This was a well done episode through out, I liked the little touches from the start to finish.  The last minute felt like it rushed the resolution but it was nice still. This is fine episode. 8/10.

That's it for now , tune in next time when we wonder why are there giant mosquitos in Michigan.
