The Loud House
Episode 18a: Space Jammed
This episode pretty much pairs down the cast to Lisa, Todd, and Leni. Leni is in her watching the family role, or at least with some indication just Lisa. This gives the episode a tight little intimate feel. Leni seems interested in what Lisa is doing she's making a rocket that can be controlled from space and Earth. (Save that for later) I also like that they did a "Men in Black" memory wipe thing.
Leni is interested in making sure Lisa is alright, you see, she gives Lisa her snack, makes sure takes a break, and wants Lisa to took a nape. Lisa is not very interested in this since she's on a deadline. Lisa fakes that she's going to take a nap from her bunker (that sounds odd out of context) and instead decides to test the rocket to go into space.
Now Lisa and Todd are in space. (Also not sure why Norway wants a rocket, what are they planning?) There's also some moments where Lisa seems to have forgotten some things. Then asteroids, and Lisa seems to be having problems focusing and goes deeper into the asteroid shower. She calls NASA and the government is of no help. (what's new?) She calls Leni for help to get into the bunker. I do like the call back to Lisa's bunker password is her birthday. (Last Loud on Earth)
Lisa gives the wrong number to Leni and the rocket ends up flying closer to the sun. (Might as well be walking on the sun) Lisa realizes that she's a little off and wonders why she's making silly mistakes. Leni realizes that Lisa hasn't had her snack and nap thus throwing her off. Leni had given her a snack somehow. Then there's Lisa dancing to get her energy up and focus and not die into the sun. (So Don't decay , act now) Thankfully, Lisa is now able to fix her steering and able to get away from the sun with Leni's help (if not her ,life has been revoked) There's a sweet moment with Leni hugging Lisa and they do a puzzle together.
There's something here about the episode having a rocket ship and blah. This is more than my Lisa bias talking, the episode works because it's not about the rocket and Lisa and Todd going into space. The episode shows how much Leni values her family or in this case Lisa and that she wants the best for her. It does a good job of showing Lisa is still a young girl and while she is smart we get a good look at her still needing some support and remember to still do things so she can focus on her science. The rocket was a good way to have that be shown visually without just telling us. It was a strong episode for that.
It's a well focused episode and the first Lisa and Leni only focused episode. I'm glad they did something a little different and not have it be about smart vs less smart as a plot. It also remembers to do something with Leni being the family's watchful eyes for the parents. It's a great episode 9/10.
More after the Jump
Episode 18b: Crown and Dirty
Lola finds out about a pageant that's a mother and daughter affair. She doesn't want to enter with Rita because well Rita doesn't seem to be pageant material. Lincoln and Luna tell her that Rita has been really into mother and child activities. She tries to make sure that Rita doesn't find out to enter, but of course you know that's not going to happen, so Rita is able to enter.
Plan B, Lola has Rita go through hard stuff to make sure they'll win. This also doesn't work. (Things just aren't working around here) I do like how Rita does try to do the stuff Lola puts her through, because she just wants Lola to be happy and wants to spend time with her. Plan C, Lola decides to lie and make up a story to Rita about the pageant being canceled. (Good thing there's no way to check on that)
The rest of the plan is to replace her with a new mom. (You can find one at Woolworths) At the mall she looks for a mom. (I was joking about finding a mom at Woolworth's Lola) She ends up finding Mrs. Bernardo and picks her. I like how they match up as a team and seems to have a really good flow to how they interact.
It's pageant time, and Lola notices that the other girls don't seem to be too concerned about winning. The episode remembers Claudette and Lindsey so wow, and the girls tell her how it's about the fun with mother and not about winning, so she feels guilty. Mrs. B decides to bow out to let Lola have her mother and encourages her to tell her mother the truth. There's a sweet moment and Lola and Rita end up going to the show and they dance and have a good time.
This was also a good episode and pretty good for Lola. It flows well, though pretty standard a plot for Lola where she learns again that winning isn't everything. I mean it works, but it's been done a lot. The episode is good for Rita and Lola to bond a little and that was fun. I give it 7.5/10.
That's it for now, tune in next time when we see a pageant on the sun.
