The Loud House: Season 4: Episode 8: Can't Hardly Wait/ A Mutt Above

 The Loud House  Nickelodeon

    Episode  8a: Can't Hardly Wait

Season 4 has decided to go with more looking at Lori getting ready for college. Which in turn would be a development for sending her to it in season 5.  This episode here focuses on the other fun part of college (even stupid golf college) is the price of text books. The price of text books means that she needs to save up money for it. The episode also includes that Lynn Sr. is sad that his daughter is about to leave.  This gives them the idea to work together at his restaurant.

This gives us something that've not seen much: Lori and her Dad doing something together. For Lori working at the restaurant proves to be difficult. She has trouble taking orders, and serving them. I do like that it shows Lori not getting the grasp of doing things. Lisa tries to help her way and we get a funny scene. (Extra 0.2pts added)

Then Lynn Sr. tires to see if she maybe could prepare food instead and that doesn't go well for her. She tires to do valet, then a montage of a few other jobs.  She decides to quit, and when she leaves she tells her father some of the little things she did and this gives him and idea: the she did a good job: manager.

This episode is a good outing for Lori. It's not a fully funny episode, but it is warm. Lynn Sr. shows his patience and really wants to make sure his daughter is able to succeed. It's sweet.  I like that it does show Lori ordering the steaks, it was subtle but a nice touch to lead up to later, would have been nice if it showed some other managing thing she did besides mentioning them, but we got one.

   It's a good simple episode 7.9/10 .

More after the jump

Episode 8b: A Mutt Above

Remember "Toads and Tiaras?"  Wanna see it again?  I really do mean that,  this episode is essentially that one but instead of Lincoln with Lana it's Lana with the dog, Charles. The starting goals are different: This one a girl named Lacey St. Clair shows up with her dog and  Lana likes dogs and is friendly, but then she takes offense to her dog being called a "classless mutt". Lacey was talking about Lana, but then includes the dog.

It is interesting how Lana only takes offense to what Lacey said about the dog, and the episode turns into Lana trying to prove Lacey wrong by getting Charles ready for a dog show.  (Dog show, the beauty pageant of dogs)  The slight difference between this one and "T&T" is that in that one Lana was willing to go along with Lincoln's plan since they both had a vested interest in winning; here, the goal is Lana wants the dog to win, thinking it's for his honor, but the dog doesn't really care for this event. I'm actually going to use this show, giving the pets some sense of sentience against it, because Charles would indicate if he is for it or against the idea of competing.

He shows no interest in doing such an event, and just wants to have dog fun.  There is a fun gag with Lucy dragging a "dead" Lincoln, he does show up into this episode for a moment.(Also minus 0.1pts for something)   I'm going to say it  is nice to see Lana and her dog hanging out and we get a nice Lola time when she decides to help the dog too.

Whatever the heck Lola did worked. When Lana tries to do normal things with her dog, he doesn't want to now. (Still, what did Lola do to this dog?)  The competition happens and the new Charles does great , but it ends with a tie with Lacey and Lana's dog.   Lana starts to realize that she misses Charles acting like himself and doing fun stuff with her.  The episode does make sure that Lana was never too far where it comes off as her being being mean to Charles for the advantage, it keeps her in most of her characterization which is good.   Back to my comparison to "T&T" around this same point, Lincoln was realizing that he was in it too deep at the expense of Lana's feelings and realized he had to step back and think, here Lana does the same thing she steps back and thinks about it and feels regret. Like Lincoln she realizes that there's something more important than winning and decides to walk.  The ending is different than that one since they don't win, but it's the same because she realizes she wants Charles for who he is.

The episode was good, but I think it is a slight re-tread of an earlier plot, so my personal investment is that I do like Lana as a character so, it's slightly easier to watch, but the same plot worked before in a more memorable way.  I do like that it holds characterization well : Lana doesn't take offense when Lacey talks about her in a negative way, just the dog, and that seems to fit her character.

    It's alright episode, for a re-tread plot, I give it 7.4/10
