The Casagrandes: Season 3: Episode 18: Alpaca Lies/ Rocket Plan

 The Casagrandes  Nickelodeon

Episode 18a: Alpaca Lies

I think I'm just going to be mean,  this episode follows a stock plot I don't like in general.  just like no. Arturo has an Alpaca friend, a literal alpaca, named Beto coming over from Peru.  Which is a weird sentence, he calls him his best friend, which I'm concerned about.  Where the episode goes is that that the Alpaca decides to kick Bobby, and that's where this starts. Beto doesn't like Ronnie Anne and Bobby, he starts by pulling down Bobby's pants and Arturo yells him thinking he's been rude to the guest.

Ronnie Anne for a second thinks Beto is just getting used to things, but that changes when Beto knocks popcorn over and let's Ronnie Anne get blamed for it. Beto also has replaced the pictures of the family on Arturo's walls with pictures of himself, and Beto hides the pictures when the kids tell him that Beto hates them.

Sadly, this episode is that plot I don't like where a character , in this case Arturo, doesn't believe someone he knows and has been around who are doing something they normally wouldn't do, when he brings in someone else. Arturo just doesn't believe Ronnie Anne and Bobby because Beto is an old friend?  There's no indication of why Ronnie Anne and Bobby wouldn't like Beto, if they just met, so why would they make up something...in Arturo's eyes?  I just can't like it, there's nothing here that they did to make it funny or interesting or different, it's that plotline an it's irritating to watch.

Ronnie Anne and Bobby are the only thing I like in the episode, and their sister-brother bond is great here.  Arturo doesn't have long investment for me in the first place, since he's barely there, but this episode is not a good showing for him.  I can get they have it written that he trusts his old friend, but (big but) there's no reason for him not to at least hear his kids out, none. (period)  Again, I don't like this plot idea used in most media because it's annoying to watch, the only way I think it works if you take  a a character who is untrustworthy or something and getting blamed for something they didn't do when someone new shows up, but otherwise no, I refuse to accept the terms.

It's just kind of tiring to watch the episode.  It's even  sad that Ronnie Anne and Bobby don't even want to hang out with their father anymore, and that's sad, when there was a whole episode dedicated to Ronnie Anne wanting the man to stay in town.

They find evidence from the news to show their father and he finally believes them. It still shows he still wants to kind of side with the alpaca, and strains him to have to send him back. Which I kind of understand, but really though, I'm not felling for the creature. The part where kids feel bad for their dad and go and talk to Beto shows they have more care about things that their own father, I still can't oh I like Beto now, the whole episode experience is annoying.

Did give me an idea, they should do a Santiago's in Peru series.  Otherwise, no, I just didn't like the episode there's nothing there for me, except I liked Ronnie Anne and Bobby's characterization and bonding through the episode, that's it. Episode already comes in having to prove it can do that stock plot to be interesting and it didn't so no I give it  4/10.

(Someone with a different view here: The way I see it working is that from Beto's point of view is that he's used to only having Arturo as like a father figure/ friend and didn't want to share Arturo. Arturo raised Beto and had him for a time to where he wouldn't be instantly think his friend is being a jerk.  Though, he should also know his children and should have given him some benefit  of the the doubt, so I can see how that plays. It's weird that he didn't maybe consider his kids,  I think it's too late into the series to play the "He's still getting to re-know his kids" thing, so yeah I can see where the episode is lost there. Thankyou.)

 More the jump

Episode 18b: Rocket Plan

CJ is working on a project for a science project, but he really wants to make a rocket for a project.  Hector decides he's going to help CJ with a plan.  This a Hector at greatest episode. This whole thing is Hector trying everything to help CJ to make sure that this plan works. (This rocket plan...you could say)

The rocket has a hard time going up, so CJ tries new ideas. (also minus 0.5pts for the Lalo gas thing, just because)  It's fun to see these two just trying different things to hope to get the rocket to go up into space.  Hector is really supportive this episode, it's sweet, and even when CJ wants to give up, so he decides to get a working rocket and swap it out to make CJ have some faith himself. The man spent $200 to make sure CJ gets to keep the faith.

Then the episode turns into Hector's in danger, because he snagged on the rocket. He reveals that he lied about the rocket, and he says that he's told his son and daughter lies before to encourage them and just wanted to encourage him,  CJ has to save Hector(this would be a dark series if not) and CJ has the confidence to make his rocket work and to help save his grandfather.   His real rocket makes to space and Hector is back on land not dead.

This was a fun heart episode, I loved it, there's a lot of warmth to the episode, it's Hector's best showing and really liked CJ's role. The only thing that lowers it was the Lalo gas gag, but Rosa's gag and Vito's gags were fun. Great episode 7.7/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we go to space!
