The Loud House: Season 6: Episode 12: The Last Laugh/ Driver's Dread

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

Episode 12a : The Last Laugh

We've not had a Luan and Lola episode; this episode decides to do just that. The focus is that Lola is off pageant season (it's rabbit season now) and she has excess energy which is weird Luan would have to explained this to Lisa. (If have go to do rabbit holes, we'll be here all week) The sets the crux when Lola crashes into Luan and causes Luan's favorite buddy, Mr.Coconuts, to get maimed. He has to get fixed and it's going to take time.

Oh yeah. we need a plot here... hmm let's see (digging through some old papers) ah, Luan has a big thing she has to do and they were expecting a ventriloquist act and Luan doesn't have a back up (bad foremanship) and her best decision is to let Lola pretend to be her dummy, the girl agrees because she gets to be a star.  (I'm glad people aren't able to tell the difference between a 7-year-old girl and a dummy)

This works and they are a sucess. I think it's a great fun to see two sisters of this series who are in performance arts working together on an act together. In a way, being a dummy is acting which is what Lola has been shown to before, and she has good showmanship because of the fact she is in beauty pageants. It shows Luan's flexibility and own showmanship as well because she is now not fully in control of what is being said.

Then, something else has entered our story here. That's right Mr. Coconuts is fixed. Luan decides to not get him back in a hurry. Which is interesting because of how bonded she is to the thing and how in past episodes they are shown to have a connection. (Which is odd to say about a dummy and human) This plotline could have been something else a more negative one, but the reason here that Luan is deciding to keep Lola is because Lola seems genuinely happy. She did have fun with Lola as well so. Coconuts can wait.

The act continues and it leads to Luan and Lola getting a leading role at Luan's favorite performance spot, but we need to... it's Coconuts! The Luan and Coconuts conversations are both always weird but kind of insightful. We know that it's Luan talking, and that the thing isn't alive. but we get the insight into her thoughts. She was holding on Coconuts because she was having a good time with her sister. She sets up in some way how Coconuts might be getting jealous. If this was a different blog and maybe show, and other factors, we would be psychoanalyzing this.  (That's what this blog is for)

Now some strange things happen that look an act being sabotaged. After all this stuff, Luan then decides that Coconuts is the one who is doing sabotaging. We even get a moment where Luan seems to really think that Coconuts is really alive.  Lisa shows up (go Lisa!) a reveal that Luan was doing everything the whole time. (duh) She was doing it as Luan in her sleep, because of guilt.  Lisa even does a connecting moment of relating to the issue, by mentioning a robot that's not Todd, but Mr. Reinforced Alloy Titanium Arms. (Which the most 4-year-old name Lisa named any of her robots ever)

Luan decides to have both of them be part of her act. The episode ends with attempted robot murder.  (As all good episodes should) This episode showed a good bond between these two sisters and made an entertaining episode. It's subtle, but well-structured and entertaining and I liked how the conflict wasn't jealousy, but more Luan feeling guilty because of how she sees Mr.C and doesn't want him to feel bad, while she also had been enjoying doing the act with her sister. Lola and the dummy are not jealous and not really part of the conflict, there's nothing forced for the conflict.  I'm also glad that they still kept it where the answer makes sense and nothing too out there, it fits for the episode.  I'm giving it 7.6/10

Episode 12b: Driver's Dread

Leni and driving as a plot was put away after season 1. (Unlike Spongebob) The idea doesn't come up again in concept in any episodes after "Driving Miss Hazy". Lori was the eldest sister and she drove, you'd see the parents drive the kids sometimes. By the later seasons, the idea of asking for rides doesn't seem to be a thing. Lola can even drive her own toy car around.  Lori leaves and it seemed non parental driving was with Lisa's robot Todd doing the work. It happens in season 5 and a moment in season 6. It seems to be the plan. Leni driving seemed to be dead.

That was until this episode.  Lori is talking to Leni about an upcoming shopping trip. Lori suggests to Leni that maybe she should give driving a try to meet up with her.  The episode uses the moment from the season 1 episode, I mentioned above as an effective story device. Leni fears the idea of driving and would rather not give it another chance. I like how this is the reason, it makes sense, it's not going for a low hanging fruit or anything odd, it's a rational well thought out reason and still fits with Leni's character.

Her first idea is to ask the parents to drive her, but they have stuff to do. She also later tries the bus. There's also a Lisa moment that plays into the episode later. I also want to mention it's funny she doesn't think of Todd to drive her, because he'll show up later.... more on that later. (keep things in order you!)  Lincoln tries to encourage Leni to drive in a good moment showing his character. (Though, I'm not sure keep on trying with a deadly machine is as good as keep on trying doing a cartwheel.)  Leni decides to try and drive.

Because this town is weird, we get three driving teachers. The first is Mr. Bolhofner who apparently moonlights as driving teacher. (Royal Woods School system isn't paying him enough) He has the best line too "You can't drive if you're not alive" in advice for seatbelt use. Which is a great advice really, people who are dead can't hit the lead.  Mr.Grouse tries to be a teacher, and this works as well as it sounds. Todd shows up, which is funny for the plot because he could have just drove her to the mall, and we wouldn't have this plot. (I could have what?) The Lisa part comes back as she was working on a self-driving stroller, for reasons and Leni gets an idea. (Dear, diary Leni had an idea today... sorry, take it away)

Leni uses the self-driving tech to pass her driver's test. (Don't try this at home) This plan works. What happens later is that Leni ends up having to drive for her trip. The thing stops working at a convenient time and she has to drive herself now. Leni eventually gets over her fear (almost dying could do that) and she makes it to Lori.

This episode works as well, there's alot of enjoyment to this episode.  I give it 7.5/10

That's it for now, tune in next time, when we sue Leni Loud and Lola Loud for reckless automobile endangerment causing little Timmy here, not to be able to walk anymore....
