The Casagrandes Nickelodeon
Episode 12a: Survival of the Unfittest
In a turn of events this show hasn't really done anything with Bobby and Arturo as father and son, there's really been nothing with them as a major focus. We had Ronnie Anne and her mom and Ronnie Anne and her dad, but no Bobby and Father moment.
Arturo is worried about his son's survival skills and decides to take him camping. The episode also decides to make Bobby slightly dumber than normal, it feels like they had to dumb him a little bit more for this episode, and it kind of bugs me. The episode does also use this for their slapstick like this is a very slapstick and cartoon-ish episode of this... cartoon. It even has the Casagrandes trademark (TM) sentient animals. Bobby is shown to be not very good at this camping stuff: he gets beaten up by animals, falls down a few times. When Bobby catches a fish in his pants (is that an euphemism?) his father thinks maybe the survival skills are working, since he doesn't know how Bobby caught the fish.
Bobby then ends up going the wrong way (the forest has convenient signs) and he tries to steal an eagle's eggs and his dad has to help him out. Which was random. (Don't try what Arturo does, at home) They end up ticking off some animals and leave. While on the train there's another power outage and Bobby uses the knowledge he did end up absorbing and gets them saved from the subway.
This episode is fine, though I'm not big on the idea of Bobby being slightly dumbed down for the plot, but the last part works really well. The episode also does a have comfy-ness to it, where it takes place outside of the city and it's nice just seeing Arturo and Bobby. It's 7/10

Episode 12b: Nixed Signals
A mother and daughter episode with Frida and Carlota. This is also something we've not seen before in the show. The episode sets up part of it as Frida gets annoyed that Carlota is on her phone obsessed with her livestreaming and social media (M O D E R N T I M E S) but the episode isn't like "phone bad" (though social media is probably not good for us)
Frida is able to convince her daughter to lay off the phone for a bit, but there's a wrench that exists to make this episode be it's normal length: Carlota live streaming a preview of Frida's artwork has made her art go viral (their words not ours, I'd never use the word myself) This causes Frida to have to pay attention to her phone because she's getting attention. Though she has to hide her phone from Carlota finding out.
The rest of the episode is her trying to make sure Carlota doesn't find out. I like this switch to have it be focused on Frida trying to hide her phone, you have to admire Carlota sticking to not having her phone for the time. It gives it more impact later when Carlota finds out that her mother was hiding her own phone usage. There's also a nice fun to this episode seeing Frida and Carlota trying to bond, you can see Carlota trying to bond her own way, like sharing her mother's art on a livestream, and having her fans interact. It's a nice generational connection episode.
It was pretty interesting to watch, I give it 7.3/10
That's it for now, tune in next time, when we wonder why Bobby decided to be on the show "Naked and Afraid" that was weird.
