Episode 5a: The Bros in the Band
Here's an episode about Bobby being into music, this has been shown before in the series. He was singing at the store and his friend, Par, hears him and is impressed by his voice. He needed a singer for his band and asks Bobby if he would like to join.
Bobby meets Par's band that happens to be a punk band. We also get a contrast between the characters, where it's Bobby's sweet and caring self and the band members who are a little more aggressive. They make fun of Bobby because he's the way he is. (The episode also finds creative ways to remove Par, since I think he would be bothered by this.)
He asks Carlota, Ronnie Annie, Sergio, and CJ to help him change his look, attitude, and stuff to be more "punk". When he goes back to the band, he impresses them with his new look and feel. Later, when the band members come over to the mercado, he has to fake being punk while still trying to be his normal sweet self. It goes wrong when some of the things he says makes his grandfather annoyed, thinking it was real.
Bobby decides that the best idea to be himself, and turns down being in the band. The music store owner talks to him and wants to see what Bobby has for talent and is impressed. He asks Bobby to play with him for the show, and there's a nice song. The punk band members realize they think Bobby is actually cool and they ask to join him and they play with him (and Ziggy, the store guy).
Basic story episode, basic message of being yourself. but there is something always enduring about Bobby that works. That's really the value of the episode is the character over the plot, and this show can do that when it has basic plots, the characters matter more, so it really helps the episode is with Bobby. It does have to find away to get Par out of the way, using the fact he's also the fruit delivery guy and Mabelle's affinity for mangos, otherwise I think they would have had to try something different for the episode to work. The episode is pretty good though. I give it 7.5/10

Episode 5b: For The Record
Ronnie Anne and her friends are spending time doing stuff and they start telling stories of cool things they've done. Like Casey mentions that he once got new sneakers that let him dunk on a ten foot rim, Sid says she once stayed up 3 days straight, looked like a zombie; Ronnie Anne says she stopped a purse thief on the subway (what?); Laird said he wrestled a shark; Sammeer, who will be the focus of the episode gives his story and it's not as impressive as wrestling a freaking shark.
He feels that he's not as cool as friends and this his story about eating cereal with water wasn't cool. Then, he announces he's going to break a record and Becky hears him. This episode goes from being a Ronnie and Friends episode to a Sameer episode, to a Sameer and Becky episode quickly. She decides to help him with a record and uses her big book of records.
The episode turns into Becky helping with different records that Sameer fails in, it's pretty fun to watch and Becky brings her energy to the episode. Then she finds something that would work for Sameer where he can blow a bubble and ride on a skateboard on for longer than 3 hours and change. The principal even allows a school rule to be broken to let him skateboard through school. (cool)
The episode is a breaking a record episode and because it is one, that means failure happens with 3 seconds left to go. Also that means the ending is also one of those, but I'll get to that. The friends find out why Sameer was doing this and that their stories were kind of eggaerations. One of them was fully real. Which gives a for a funny moment. Becky comes back to tie up the episode and reveals how these plots usually end with how he got a record for most failures at breaking records.
This episode give a Ronnie Anne friend a spotlight after Laird , Casey, and Sid, which allows the viewers to get to see a little more about him and also gives me more of one my favorite side characters on the show. Becky brings an energy to the episode as well and makes it even more enjoyable. This episode was pretty good, even talking the standard record episode and still making it work.
I do like how the stories were real but with some "enhancers" minus one making it even funnier. Watching the attempts is also a fun ride and the episode gives a lot to enjoy. I give it 7.5/10
That's it for now, tune in next time when we break a record in yelling a crabs!
