The Casagrandes: Season 3: Episode 3: Curse of the Candy Goblin

 The Casagrandes Nickelodeon  Halloween

Episode 3 : Curse of the Candy Goblin

It's a Halloween special, that means Halloween stuff will be happening. Carl, Carlotta, Ronnie Anne, Bobby,  and CJ are dressed in Halloween costumes. The main goal of these characters is to go trick or treating (yes, Bobby and Carlota) to get the most candy and the winner wins everyone else's trick or treat bucket.   They decide to not have Carlitos and Sergio not allowed to come with them, this is important for later.

There's a candy catching montage. (also minus .3 pts for you know why)   Meanwhile, Laird takes us to plot B, the haunted Mercado  thing from the last Halloween episode is back with more fright.  Laird gets scared off and the rest  plot be starts up with the adults at the store. It is fun to see the random  haunts and apparently Vito is trying to make sure his costume is unique.

Sancho, the pigeon, gets run over by the Casa-Santiago kids and this will be important later too, as they go the plot device house that will get our plot going....about  9 minutes in.  No, really though, I do like the set up of Halloween and it does have a fun Halloween spirit so its not really a drag, and they know they have 22 minutes, so far, nothing seemed useless though.

There's house that has a bowl of candy out that says just take one, the kids decide "No, I don't think I will," and take more than one. There's also a warning that if they take more than one then the Candy Goblin will show up . (Roll credits)  They run back home and find the warning sign at home, which happens to be a sign as there's a creature rapping at their window.

The first half is pretty good at setting up everything, giving a fun Halloween feel and experience. So let's get to part 2. The Candy Goblin is mad at the Casa-Santiago kids for taking more than one and he wants revenge or candy. (revenge candy?)

The B-side  plot is kind of meandering though, Vito, in a pumpkin costume, is stuck in the door way of the store. Anyway, back to plot A, the candy goblin is still goblining. There's a nice moment where Carl saves Ronnie Anne and apparently the b plot was happening just to make sure they couldn't run inside the store. So they decide to surrender and ask the Candy Goblin what he wants.  He wants candy They start to argue and the Candy Goblin decides to take Carlitos. Which , if you've been paying attention to the special is part of the plan.

They go back to the spooky house to surrender the candy and try to get Carlitos back.   I like the spooky house it has a nice Scooby Doo aesthetic and a fun environment to watch.  Anyway, they decide to give their candy all of it to the goblin and he gives them back Carlitos in agreement for giving him candy the next year too.  The kids end up with candy from their grandmother and they apologize to Carlitos for leaving him out.

Now the twist, if you weren't paying attention, was that Carlitos , Sergio, and Sancho worked together to do this for their revenge.

This was a good special, had fun Halloween hallmarks and there was something there for every character to do. I saw the twist coming, but I liked that they were all doing it for good reasons. Poor Sancho was squished by the greedy Casa-Santiago kids (Did Sancho write this?)  Sergio (love him or hate him) was justified because they didn't want him there just because "he would have an advantage", and Carlitos for being left out for being too young.  The only thing that hurt it slightly would be the horror movie ending of a monster showing up to scare them. The B plot was slightly weak, but  didn't take away too much from the episode, it was there as a plot device and a breather to the A plot. I give the special 8/10

That's it for now, we've have candy in that bowl, just take one though...

 ... or else....
