The Casagrandes: Season 2: Episode 19: Spinoff/ Tooth or Consequences

 The Casagrandes Nickelodeon

 Episode 19a: Spinoff

Ha spinoff ha and this series is a ha ...anyway.  This episode is about C.J. he spinning  a sign for the family store and does amazing power with it. Par sees him and suggests that he enter a sign spinning competition a spin off , if you will. (boo!) CJ doesn't at first want to because he gets nervous with competition.  Par decides to start to train CJ to help him with competition.

It's good to see Par interacting with some the family in these episodes, and  I like that his training doesn't become anyway over the top or mean like some of these plots sometimes end up doing.  There's a montage of training. Now it's competition  day and CJ's nervousness.  I like how Mrs. Kernicky's name is just Mrs. Kernicky,  poor woman doesn't have a first name, please help her.

CJ seems to get over some nervousness with impressing. Also Artemis shows up again, and I haven't seem him since that episode he and Becky were introduced (Two of Clubs) cool. CJ goes through the competition easily  and there's only one more left, a kid named Doyle.  Doyle's power seems to make CJ nervous.

Now CJ gets Carl to help (this is not the best plan)  so Carl helps him by trying to make sure Doyle can't compete by taking every sign in the building to make sure the kid can't spin them.  This plan fails and everyone thinks CJ found the signs. Anyway it's Doyle Butler and CJ Casagrande in a sign off (spin off). There was a "Stayin' Alive" reference so +0.3 pts added.   Thanks to the power of optimism it helps CJ but the sign falls and breaks, but the crowd cheers him on and  he gets the idea to do a good recovery. He may have not won, but he won our hearts.  ( I stole that from the episodes)

This was a fun episode, I really enjoyed it.  Par and CJ working together was great, the competition felt fun to watch. I love the message of using encouragement to get over nervousness. The idea of don't give up working well. The Carl part didn't go bad, I like how the bad plan kind of just destoyed itself and didn't be a thing in the plot more than just a moment.  This is a good episode 8.3/10.

Episode 19b :Tooth or Consequences

This episode gives  a hint of  Mexican culture with a tooth fairly like thing called  El Raton , which is a mouse that collects tooth and gives money.  (Some other cultures use rats/mouse too, not sure what a rat wants with the teeth or how they get money, but I don't know what fairies want either so...)

Adelaide's tooth falls out (she's 6 or something so it's fine) and Carl tells hers her about El Raton after she mentions the tooth fairy.  The next morning, she's un happy that the mouse didn't show up.  Bobby figures out that he might be the reason why  El Raton didn't show up. (just go along with it)  Bobby tells the story of how he scared a mouse away and it might have been El Raton. He feels bad and he, Carl, and Adelaide work to get him to come back.

The weirdest plan was trying a shoe for a mouse to see if the same size fits the same size as El Raton. Also mice just take everything in the store. (What am I watching?)  Carl finds a mouse to be El Raton and now the smart mouse is going to do it.  The next morning, the smart mouse apparently took the money and ran  to Switzerland. (ha ha ha ha)

Plan E or something was Bobby dressing like a mouse and going to give Adelaide money for her tooth.  That goes badly for him, but the real El Raton showed up and it worked, and apparently the mouse wasn't scared off by Bobby.

This was a funny episode with some fun gags and jokes. I like how Bobby's nature helps him want things to go right, that's a great aspect to his character. Carl had a fun part in this episode, it was fun to see him use his scamming energy for positive results.  Sure, the idea of a mouse that delivers teeth being real in a "grounded" show is odd, but I liked it, it's a fun little episode and shows the viewers a different tradition as well.   I give it 8.5/10
