Episode 17a: Dad Reputation

In this episode, Lynn Sr. along with Rusty's Dad (a Dad with no name; Credits say Rodney) , one of Clyde's Dads (Harold) and Lynn's Sr's friend (Kotaro) have a band with apparently two people playing cowbells because someone thought that was funny. Anyway, it's time with Luna to help them fix their mess of a band.  Luna helps them out and sets up the plot when they ask her to join them for their "gig" at Lynn's restaurant (which apparently he's not working at this episode, that's how restaurants work?)  Luna is embarrassed because she doesn't want to be part of the dad band because no one will take her seriously as a rocker. (What?)

Luna can't tell the truth to her dad,  because plot reasons and we need to fill the time, but also because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings. So her plan is to make sure that her friends don't see her. (True friends wouldn't make fun of her for helping her dad's band, there whole post over, let's get lunch!)  She gets her siblings to help and make sure there's no evidence of her performance seen around at all. This  works.

That one time only thing ends up being two times only because, of course it does.  (We have 6 minutes left in the episode, it has to continue!)  The mayor thinks that it's a good idea to invite the dad band to the Royal Woods festival. That means the dads ask her do it again, and she accepts because Lynn Sr. uses dad powers.

For this episode, you do see some Luan and Luna interaction with Luan giving advice through Mr. Coconuts.  She tries some plans that of course don't work.  Lynn Sr. tells her he figured out that she doesn't want to be seen with the band and accepts that and says that she doesn't have to preform with them.  Lynn Sr. then starts to have  stage fright meaning that Luna has to come on and finish the episode by helping them out with the performance.  The episode ends with a song.

It's an alright episode, though  I will put as weird decisions being made category. Luna says that she's worried about her friends seeing her in this band, not total randos, but that is strange since you'd think her friends wouldn't be that way, and that she would know that, you'd think.  I think that was slightly confusing and seemed only to make it a plot drama point over something else.

The episode is alright to watch. The moments between Luan and Luna were nice , and seeing the siblings help out was nice. The little moments in the episode were fun , it as interesting to see Lincoln's friends Dads also be friends with Lynn Sr. that was a nice touch. I will add the episode didn't need more cowbell.  I give it 7/10.

  More after the Jump

Episode 17b:  In the  Mick of  Time

There's a nice touch of starting the episode with a scene from season 1's "For Bros about to Rock" the episode where Luna tells Lincoln how she got in to liking music the way she does. They used to his moment to lead into the episode where Luna is telling her friends and band mates about Mick Swagger, then she mentions where she met him in person from the episode 1 "House Music".  (That's more flashback than normal.) The call backs are slightly nice touch to see, but not feeling too over done.

This leads into Leni running over and saying the band for an upcoming high school dance has canceled.  She asks Luna if her band could play but the school has a puddle problem  (which is running gag in this episode)  and they two of them are injured. They suggest if Luna ask Mick and with pressure, she agrees not knowing that she could do it.

Good thing she and Chunk were going to a Mick concert and  she works to get his attention. These plans do not work. (That's the way life is.)   They try the old deliver a pizza trick with a note inside asking Mick if he could play at the school dance.  There's also a funny little joke there, well it made me laugh. (good for you)  Later, Luna finds the pizza box with the note taped in and she figures that Mick didn't say anything.

Oh anyway, the oh yeah the school. So to make Luna feel worse, the school knows that she got Mick, and Principal Puddles( Rivers, but she doesn't seem to care about the puddles) even is happy. Chunk says that Luna should say the truth , but he's not aware that we have 5 minutes left in the episode. (That happens sometimes) (Oh he's right though)

Luna goes with the most classic sitcom plan: fake being Mick Swagger.  How do you think this plan will go?   It's a good thing people can't tell the difference between an old rock star and teenage girl in a wig. Or this plan would be dumber.  Oh, let's throw in some more tension and the classic sitcom plot of trying to be in two places at the same time, since Sam says she wanted to watch the concert with Luna. (The song is too on the nose on purpose)

(3 Minutes!) Oh yeah, the plan fails when liquid hits the computer that Luna was using to lip synch as Mick. The truth is out and she says what happened.  The episode saves Luna's butt with Mick and his band shows up because he did read the note in the pizza box.  The episode ends with a son.  Oh the puddles helped out somehow later on, and  yeah.  That's the episode.

It's another alright episode, it takes the stock sitcom plots and uses them well.  I can feel for Luna since she kind of had her back against the wall and felt she couldn't  tell the truth of the situation. It does work with Luna's character and her spirit in the right place.  The episode is enjoyable for that.  I give it 7/10.

That it's for now, tune in next time when we wonder about Dad rock.
