Episode 11: Zoo-Mergency

We've not had an episode focused on Sid at all, so finally, there is one. There's a perception into the Chang family we don't see much because the show usually focused on the  Casagrandes/ Santiagos.  We see Sid, Adelaide, and the animals they take from the zoo enjoying K-Pop music. This is important as you maybe see later.  Anyway, Becca Chang comes home and she brings the plot with her. The problem is apparently this city they live in have been very bad with their zoo budget and now they may have to close it down. (Most of that is my words, but still, a major city failing at zoo-ing is something)  Anyway, this is where the idea of raising money for the zoo comes up.

The one thing this episode has to do is see how well Sid can hold an episode with Ronnie Anne, since we've mostly only seen each them with each other. This episode spaces out Ronnie Anne to actually only show up in small blips. I think it was good move.  I do like seeing more to Sid's character and she has a mixture of off kilter zaniness that fits her well, we don't see these kinds of characters as much anymore this was nice.

Through the episode, Sid thinks of an idea and it doesn't go well, maybe they are half way good ideas that forget to plan through the rest like the monkey waiting idea.  They are also showing that Sid has a connection with the animals.  Her little sister, Adelaide, has  her own slight side plot about her trying to help these creatures  get out of the zoo so they don't have to be split up. It's a funny and sweet side plot that will provide more to the episode later.  Her moments are also a good sign and don't take away from the main Sid focus.

Sid's parents  go along with Sid's plans until they get tired of them, and find ways to guide her into "low stakes" jobs.  She still seems to be going to a slightly over the top way of doing something. They go a nice middle ground and showing that she's only doing this because she cares and just wants to save the zoo, but not thinking through things well, verus just making it annoying for plot reasons.

We need things to go sour, so Sid of course hears her parents saying that she's too zany and her plans weren't very good to make sure she cries and runs back home. While, Adelaide's plot works into the main plot, as she accidentally releases all the zoo animals. Again, this combination of the plots was well done and smooth. Anyway, this causes a mess at the zoo and the animals rampage into the city. This breaks into the K-POP show Sid is watching (because K-POP just airs on TV like that)  and she decides to go and help.

The saving in this episode is Sid using an idea that she's been suggesting and a call back to the start of the episode, freakin' K-pop.  That's right she uses  freakin' K-Pop to save the zoo and help the animals back into their homes. It's a such a strange idea, it does fit with her character, it's just strange. I like the episode and does a great job pulling things together and working it well.

Sid's first episode was well done, and they show off her interesting character and it gave her a showcase we don't see much. It was a strong episode and well done showing that.  I give it  8/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time, when we wonder why Great Lakes City is taking money for the  zoo and buying fancy boats instead.
