The Loud House Nickelodeon
Previously on The Loud House, Lincoln and Clyde dispute over their grandmas read that here
I'm doing a four pack of episodes since they were released so close to each other, it made more sense to do it like this...thank you.
Now to episode 9
Episode 9a: School of Shock
I don't know why Lisa is just progresses through normal grades like normal, or more set up where she skipped a grade to be in Kindergarten and now this season :1st grade. She is obviously above all this and yet, here we are. This episode starts kind of how "Friend of Faux" starts where she is bored by the lesson plans being below her understanding level. (Again see my first point) The teacher named Ms. Allegra is teaching her class about animal math and Lisa mentions that fact that lions and giraffes don't hang out much, except for dinner. The start of the episode is setting up the clash between this teacher and Lisa. Lisa later tells her class the facts of life that we all die some say. (what?) Allegra gets more annoyed by Lisa each scene.
It's also fun to see they brought back Lisa's science corner in this new classroom space. I will mention this at the end more, but I do that Lisa wants everything to be at her understanding level, and truly thinks the class would better off they were in a more advance learning status. Meaning, she only understands things at her level and anything below that is a drag down. (Insert that first point made here again)
Allegra decides to the logical thing of leaving her class in anger, and a funny joke of her mentioning she thought Lola was the worst one to teach. (HA) This is to allow Lisa to teach , and she looks out the window smugly. Lisa teaches the class in a way that maybe only she would understand and enjoy. This being Lisa means that it's slightly over the top in method. Teaching 6-year-olds string theory is weird. (yes) Lisa's teaching isn't working because she's um not paying to the needs of her students. That's right she's over doing it. I get that she wants others to be educated and informed, but there has to be a balance. (They also do a fart joke and I'm cutting .5 pts from the episode for that)
A robot Lisa made in a previously in a different episode, called Darebot is back, because now the episode needed a robot. It's there to make sure Lisa can keep order. It's also funny that Lisa teaches kids Romeo and Juliet. This is also happening before lunch, how long is this day? Lisa gives the class a pop quiz which they fail, because of course they did. Lisa gets an idea from Allegra's mug to bring learning to life.. that means the silliest thing in this episode happens: Lisa brings a freakin' DINOSAUR into our time. (what the heck?)
I do like how they set up the dinosaur thing from the start by mentioning dinosaurs that's nicely done. Because it's freaking Dinosaur! It rampages because it's a freakin' DINOSAUR! I like how the school is uncaring about a dinosaur running through the building they just ignore the sounds. Lisa's robot loses to the dinosaur. (what?)
The Dinosaur corners Lisa and well that was a good episode, too bad about the death, oh well...I give it...oh wait... Allegra comes back and somehow tames the dinosaur who knows how to drink from straws? (What? ) Lisa apologizes and realizes that she was wrong and lets the woman teach.
This episode was funny and pretty interesting. The dinosaur part was ridiculous , unnecessary and funny. Here's something I think works for what Lisa's character is that makes her somewhat interesting to have. She's very much a reflective internally at odds character. She has way above average intelligence but also is a young child. She knows all this information and can do way above even adult average things and creations, but only has experience of being a child. There aren't other children like her to have that common bond with, even though she has a friend like Darcy, there are things that Lisa enjoys and likes that Darcy doesn't understand at all. That contrasts with the fact that because of her superiority she also has an arrogance (might be the wrong fitting term) because she out class even adults like the teacher in things she know, but it also works to her childishness , which even if she doesn't admit, (she's called some of Lincoln's purists , immature) she does have because of course she does. Children don't usually have a filter to think about things they've said at first, like her mentioning Allegra's failure at making the factuality softball team. This dynamic to her character brings some interesting plots, especially this one.
I do understand if someone found her annoying this episode, because they were laying it on thick, I think it's because that's her childish side showing, which is why I wrote that paragraph first. I think that that's the writing way of showing that side of her, but yeah I can see how some would be annoyed by that.
It was strange to just have Allegra run out like that, but alright. It was nice to see Darcy again, the start had a nice slightly friendship moment between the two. I do wish they did an episode that wasn't about Lisa's intellect there is more to her character than that and yes I know she's smart, it's season 5, we all know she is smart, it would be nice to give her plots where she can do some other pursuits something with Darcy, or something going with her like of rap and other interests, it would be nice. I give the episode 8/10.
More (so much more) after the Jump
Episode 9b: Electshunned
An episode about politics and elections oh no! Well this one is actually fine. It starts randomly with Leni working as an intern for the mayor. This is just out of left field. They mayor, who has been featured in a few past episodes, is named Mayor Davis, and she's up for reelection.
Her campaign manager shows up and he is kind of evil, he just feels evil. His first introduction scene he mentions that if someone runs against her you just destroy them with dirt about them. (wow) Also Flip ran in the last election? (He's both brave and idiot) He brought his step daughter' s Gila monster too to practice pet kissing. (Uhh don't do this in real life)
Leni has ideas for the mayor, but the manger denies them harshly. The mayor (I do like they show her as a good helpful person. The "...there's more to running for mayor than just quirky ideas" was a good line. I do like that Leni has some good ideas mashed in with her interesting ones. (There's no 24 hour stores in Royal Woods?)
The family helping out and a like, hey she's just running for mayor is an interesting touch. I like it. Leni campaigns and the mayor takes notice that people actually like what they hear. Davis' manager decides to start being more negative against Leni, who doesn't want to play that game. This episode is pretty funny as well.
They mayor also goes out and calls out the Loud family. (Does the town hate the family) This makes Leni want to go against the mayor by finding out something about her. This is when Leni finds out that the mayor bought her keyboard in a different town. This escalates, the mayor decides to go after Leni dressing like a 90's person. Lincoln makes an ad calling the mayor a cat hater. Then it's back and forth between the two.
When at her rally, Leni notices everyone saying mean things about the mayor, she decides she doesn't like this and feels uncomfortable and tells everyone that the mayor is a nice person. She says that being mean isn't her, but the crowd leaves because this town is weird... it was close though. Leni doesn't win because the show is too cowardly to let that happen, and maybe people in real life don't want positive politics. Hmmm
This was a great epiosde, they managed to do a politics without it being to related to any uh currentness... and making the audience feel disturbed. It was a well done episode, showing the mayor at the start being understanding or Leni made it work to keep her also on the good side , just having both of them get too heated and Leni wanting to stop it shows Leni's character and well done maturity. A great episode 8/10.
Now to Episode 10! Bonus time!
Episode10a: Zach Attack
Let me tell you about a boy named Zach, he likes alien you see. The 5th season has given already, an episode with Liam, now Zach gets a plot too. It starts with Zach waking up and he has a very fancy computer, but today is day. Apparently, aliens are coming. He's done math and having an alien party to see the alien flyby.
Zach wants to prove that they are real (and that they made the Eifel Tower, probably) his friends are kind of worried because they are non-believers. At the party, nothing happens, and Chandler and the others are annoyed that there wasn't any space ships flying over. Zach doesn't want people to doubt him so he asks Rusty to help by faking an alien ship sighting. This works.
This works too well, when Zach tells Rusty to stop, Rusty got a little into it and caused the fake space ship to look like it landed in a park. Zach parents, being believers, decide to bring the party to the park to find the ship. (safety?) Since the spaceship can't be seen, the logical answer is that the ship evaporated and the aliens have taken human form. (what?) Which makes things worse. Zach feels anguish about the fact this lie went too far. He wants to tell his parents but we have like 5 minutes left, but plot gotta go.
Meanwhile, the town is scared by aliens. Zach tells his friends that he made a mistake and needs help. His plan to fix a fake landing is to fake them taking off. This plan doesn't work because duh. So before his friends are murdered, he tells the truth. Then the episode ends with a nice touch of Flip faking a spaceship without anyone knowing because he wants money, but it's a great ending. It gives a win to Zach after learning his lesson and it's a nice touch.
I really liked this episode. There was energy to the story, with some tension, since the town could really have done anything. Zach held this episode better than I thought he would. They had a great use of the background characters, it really had an adventuroues and exciting tone to it. The funny parts were held in well and I really liked how the episode felt. There was a good adventurous time to be had. The way Zach's parents also believe in things like aliens made it work even better, the town thinking it was real was interesting, like they just accepted it, but it works like a "War of The Worlds" type myth. I think it's 10/10.
Episode 10b: Flying Solo
In this episode, Lincoln can sing. So apparently, Clyde and Lincoln (also Liam and Paula) are in the glee club. Why? I don't know, why are you asking me. There's solo part coming up and Clyde says that he's been preparing to get it for about a month, while Lincoln says he was playing video games. (Choices) Zach, Stella, and Rusty have Home ec. So the stakes are if they win this thing, they'll be able to go to regionals. Lincoln then decides to help Clyde with singing a solo line and everyone loves his voice and the teacher picks him. Lincoln tries to get the attention to someone else but teacher wants him picked.
Clyde doesn't like this because of the work he put in to trying to get the solo and the fact his aunts are coming in from the Canary Islands. (And boy their arms are tired) The logical plan is apparently to try and sabotage Lincoln's voice by wearing it out. That's Clyde's plan. (what?) This plan is like wow, that's very cleaver and disturbing at the same time. I enjoy how the home etc. parts also bend in to the episode, it s a great touch.
Anyway, Lincoln has lost his voice and the gig has to go to Clyde fill in. The karmic force that usually messes with Lincoln has switched to Clyde and making his performance go bad, Maybe the guilt has built up and ruined him. He goes to Lincoln and I like the exchange between Lincoln and Clyde with Lincoln's dry-erase board it's sweet and Lincoln forgives him.
Clyde finds ways to help Lincoln's voice get recovered. That works, cool. Lincoln decides the best way to wrap up the episode by having them both sing (as a way to back up). That was also a sweet touch.
This can be a relatable episode, where someone works hard for something, but some else gets something because of better talent or expectation. Clyde had to figure out that happens sometimes. I'm glad the episode didn't have them try and fight for the position, or have Lincoln be arrogant about getting it. It was well done, I give it 8/10.
That's it for now... tune in next time when we fight off a dinosaur who is running for mayor against aliens who can sing.
