The Loud House: Season 5: Episode 5: Blinded by Science/ Band Together

 The Loud House  Nickelodeon

Previously on the Loud House:  Ghosts are real, apparently, and the golf college needs one!   Read that here.

Now to episode 5: And This time we  get to poetry in motion.

       Episode 5a:  Blinded by Science

This is not episode about Thomas Dolby's album from 1982 which hosts his well known song, "She Blinded me with Science" (now that the disappointed people have left, the rest can move on) the title does come into play, more than just being a Lisa Loud episode.

Lisa needs a scientific marvel to present new research for a genius con.  Lincoln brings her to Flip's to get a Flipee (Flip's the home of Flipee's since 1942, I think, I don't know how old the man is )  She sees that Flip can't feel pain (and that he's gross, we all know that,) also that organs are in the wrong spot.(uhh)  This makes Lisa want him to be presented.  He agrees to do this for publicity reasons. (Flip likes money)

Lisa studies the man and she is impressed and is ready to present him at the con.  Meanwhile, Clyde and Lincoln are in the episode too, they show up to watch as well, and promote Flip's store.  (Don't eat the cheese there)  Did you know Lisa is a M.D, a JD (which means  Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, or doctor of law) Phd, and DDS?   She shows that Flip has organs in weird spots, gills, other stuff, and 2 butt cracks, because uhh.   A weird lady from the shadows, (that means she shouldn't be trusted) comes from the shadows. Her name is a fun little note of triva, her name is Carol Linnaeus. That's  a play on the name Carl Linnaeus, (he wrote in Latin as Carolus Linnæus) who is known as the father of modern taxonomy.  When you hear something like : Equus caballus (horse) that was his naning device.  (That's right we are doing history on this site)  They  did an interesting little naming here for a character, that's a nice touch and attention to detail.

Anyway, Dr. Linnaeus wants Flip. (Not romantically, silly) for SCIENCE!  Now many would say no because she's  a random woman who came from nowhere to ask this question. Lisa wants to do it, and Flip is convinced when Linnaeus says they pay well at her lab. (Incognito  Labs, get it?)  Flip signs paper work , and like you not reading the terms and conditions (you already agreed to give us free soda) Flip signed the papers and runs off with the woman.  (This was a mistake, said the narrator)

Lisa decides to check out more about Dr. Linnaeus.  She uses a search engine modeled off Yahoo, so yay! (I will note that the browser says  FILE//:WAHOOSEARCH , that's incorrect formatting, also that would mean she's looking at a file not a website, but sure alright, yes you can look at files on a web browser, if they are saved on your computer!, PDF's can be opened that way)   Funny enough her search  engine doesn't even mention Carl, rude.  She gets results on the lab, until it makes her computer explode. (don't tap into the C.I.A, Lisa they don't like that)

Then a rat comes in does what rats do, save things!  This rat has a message with word "HALP" it's from Flip, it's a rat from the lab. ( A lab rat) She goes and follows the rat and notices that Flip is being treated like a lab rat. (yes)  Lisa realizes she was blinded by science and treated Flip the same way. She meets  Dr. Linnaeus in her car. (Lisa broke into a car) and confronts her. The lab is for space travel, the doctor says that she is going to send Flip into space without a space suit  to test something out. Lisa mentions that could obliterate  him just by the force of going up in a fast rocket. (Essentially, kill him, that's dark, man) Yes, the woman doesn't care if she kills Flip.

The doctor has an eject seat in her car for some reason. (Why, no body knows)  Lisa finds Lincoln and Clyde to save Flip. She uses a disguise that works somehow.  Lisa , Lincoln, and Clyde should do more things together. Lisa  can crack codes like a spy , so I want a Lisa Loud  spy series , now. ( I'll make it, come on Nick! )

Anyway,  once again Lisa says she realizes that she made a mistake and that Flip is a human  and should have some respect.   After a chase the doctor and her security end up in the rocket, and gets launched, so they dead. ( Most likely dead) It ends happily for everyone else though, so uhhhh yay!

This was a fun episode. It put Lisa in a position of ethics, that even though Flip might be a strange marvel, he still is a human (unless they retcon him as an alien) and that he needs to be at least respected as a human. He's not  the most liked character by fans of the series, but it does show that even if he's not likable that doesn't mean he should be harmed for no reason.  The title does a good job of explaining this episode, that Lisa was blinded by what was going on for a moment and had to see the light.

The episode was well done to that extent. It did have some gross moments  but those weren't  too much. The pacing was good, I was surprised how it flowed and didn't seem to have any lulls in action. Lisa's episodes are always interesting in their structuring and this was one fun. Lincoln and Lisa should have a straight episode in the future that would be nice.  They did keep some of unlikable things about Flip down, so that you (the viewer) would want him to not die. (Wait hold on)

The doctor's plot is dark as heck, again she wanted to send a guy into space without the stuff to see how that would work with him. Going off how he seems to not feel pain and some of abnormalities, but the idea of the suits for space travel is to make sure that the person doesn't succumb to the pressure.(It can "boil" your liquids)   Lisa mentioning that it could (safe word for kill )  him, gave the episode a dark edge and some stakes that she has to get him back.  Yes, it's a cartoon and he could reshow up anytime, anyway, but still, that's a dark concept. It also shows the Doctor might have been blinded by science to forget that she could do harm to someone for the quest of discovery.  This episode has layers to it that I wasn't even expecting it to have.

          It's  a good episode, I give it 8/10

More after the Jump

     Episode 5b:  Band  Together

Luna,Sam, Mazzy, and Sully have a band called the Moon Goats. The episode starts with them doing a song about being in the band.  The episode starts with showing them being good friends and doing light fun, like a prank. There's a woman named Katie Krest, who's the biggest manger in the music industry. The Moon Goats decide the logical thing is to stalk her. (Uh what?)  She doesn't want to hear the, but they follow her around to get her attention.  Finally, she gives in, and let's them play for her.

Now, this is certain kind of plot formula, how do you think this  is going to go? A) They get rejected  B) They get accepted, c) Luna only Luna gets picked, pick this one. If you said B, you were wrong.   Luna gets picked, to join a band.  Katie decides to manage Luna  to be a lead singer for band. Luna decides to talk to the band, because she wants to do it.

I would make a  VH1 behind the music joke here, but that show hasn't existed in years, and VH1 is kind of sad now bring back my video hits 1 !  (What?)  The band agrees and Luna walks away. (plays sappy music)  Glad her parents agreed to have their child hang out with some older band people and go on tours around the country. (What?)  You can feel the disconnect between Luan and the band from the start and this is to tell you don't mesh well at all.    You can tell how this episode is going to go, because we can't do so much status quo changing this season, we already did so much!  (HALP!)

Luna decides to quit because it's not for her and wants to be with her friends.  Now, I like how they don't just say "hey you can come back" because they replaced her, because that was a logical step. Luna decides she'll be a roadie, just to be with them. That's a well done thing here.  Chunk, after Luna's help, gets to be a lead singer for that band Luna left.  So, that means she's back to lead singing in the Moon Goats.

This episode does a well  known plot idea, and goes it's own hints to it.  I've seen this done before, and bone better, also worse , it's between. I do like the episode, especially how it's handled at the end and a nice little arc for Chunk, a character featured in this series for a few times. It's  a well done episode. I give it 7.5/10

That's it for now, tune in next time, when we help a rat join a band  of science!
