The Loud House: Season 4: Episode 1: Friended! With the Casagrandes

The Loud House  The Casagrandes      Nickelodeon

Alright, well this is confusing. The Loud House season 4 came out in 2019 , ( it was renewed for 5th season that year, and it will come out it the future)  The thing about season 4's start is that they decided to do a set of episodes without the Louds.  So, the Loud House got a spinoff called, "The Casagrandes" which was set to premiere in 2019 as well. They decided ,again, to do a taster with using the Loud House real estate to promote the new series.

These are considered Loud House episodes just not with the Louds, and something something something. These shows are interlinked at the hip, more than many other spin-offs and parent shows usually are.  Many times spinoffs break away from the parent show and break away hard, like "Flo" and "Alice".  So, that's my explanation  of why I'm writing about this a season 4 but, no Louds. In case, you the readers who curious and not the one who already know this.

Quick explanation 2: electric explanations.  In season 2, Ronnie moved from the Loud House town of Royal Woods, with her mother and brother, Bobby, to a city called Great Lakes City to live with her extended family on the mother's side. This was kept in canon establishment and they brought it up a couple more times. The network decided to have spinoff series based off that idea and that's what "The Casagrandes" is about.   How is Ronnie Anne related to the Loud House? She was a character who became one of Lincoln's friends , her brother is the boyfriend of eldest Loud sister, Lori.  The family members featured on this show are her cousins: Carlota, C.J, and Carl, they are the kids of her mother brother, Carlos, his wife is Fredia.  Her grandmother is Rosa and Hector is the Grandfather, they also have  a bird named Sergio also a dog named Lalo.

Wow, thanks for letting me do all that; Let's get on with it.

Season 4 Episode 1:  Friended! With the Casagrandes

The one thing, I must mention first, is that usually when show adds a new character, it's more forced and to there fix ratings or something. A lot of times it's clunky and awful and doesn't help, but here it's so natural and well done it's amazing.  In fact, they've done with another character that'll mention in a different post so, doing it well one time is amazing , twice is even more amazing.

They wanted to establish a friend for Ronnie Annie, a friend for Ronnie Anne in the city she's living in for the series that she will be in, they established in season 2.  That's what this episode is for, to establish a friend for Ronnie Anne.

I will note that during these set of episodes that they do this short Loud House intro then Ronnie Anne pops up and says  "Hey it's me Ronnie Anne, and if you like the Louds, then come check out my family..." then proceeds to tell us who they are.

Now the episode. (Finally, good lord, man!)

Ronnie finds out that building upstairs is vacant, her grandmother is building manager and she's going to show to hopeful tenants. The start of this episode also shows the family environment to set up the scene. It gives us nice glimpse into the family's relationships and doings. Just in case the viewers at home forgot or thought their cable guides or pirates gave them the wrong episode (we aren't endorsing pirating , ugh don't sue us) they have Ronnie Annie talking to Lincoln on video chat because video chat.

She gets a hot dog, at 9am. (There's nothing wrong with getting a hot at 9am, so I'm with this!) Then there's this girl who orders the same thing. Ronnie Anne next, goes skateboarding and  like totally wipes out on a hydrant, then she tries again and like totally doesn't wipe out. That girl! (don't do the joke!)  Fine, that girl from earlier shows up and she was impressed , she gets on the skateboard, and like totally wipes  out.

Her name is Sid Chang, and these two hit it off.  Ronnie Annie cites exposition of her background and well I wasted time up there didn't I? This allows Sid to give her background, that her mother is a Zoologist , her father is a subway driver, and her younger sister Adelaide  is her younger sister.

Let see, was that whole tenant thing important? Oh, it was. Yep, Sid's family is thinking of moving there.  Ronnie Anne really wants Sid's family to have the apartment. This sets off the rest of the plot.  Sure, I'll note it here: I really like the transitions in this set up it's kind fun and energetic. The other thing is  they seem to have more a comic strip vibe going on than the Loud House which has  basis in comic strip style, that's an interesting thought.  Back to the plot.

She asks her cousins and brother to help her out and help make sure that no one else sees the apartment.  This plan works until the landlord says some friends of his are coming over to look at the apartment. So of course, nepotism.  Ronnie Anne won't back down  no, she won't back down  and has a new plan.  They're going to wreck the apartment so, no these friends won't want it.

They even work it out to make sure Ronnie Annie shows the fake damaged apartment to scare them away.  It works!  But of course, this plan has to go wrong. The building owner shows up, and wants to fire Rosa because the apartment was in disrepair. Ronnie Annie admits the truth.  He does let Rosa keep her job.  Ronnie Anne has to fix the apartment and now the friends are coming over to take it.  Then she finds out that Sid's family gets to move in after all.

First off,  as I said at the top, introducing Sid was well done and the character felt natural to the whole world. I am really that was pulled of well, when there are so many things that could have gone wrong they found a way not do such a thing. The character, herself, is really fun and quirky bringing a little energy and stands out as a district character. They made it feel like these two could be real friends and that's really nice. I commend that.

This  episode was otherwise, a standard plot where you already know that Sid will be moving in the apartment , it's a given really.  They aren't going to try any surprises in this case. This doesn't mean the episode is awful. I like seeing Ronnie Anne's characterization being put to work here. She plans and correlates her family members, she doesn't give up too easily and has a great drive. It was nice seeing her and her family members work together on a goal. This was a good episode with its humor, introducing the characters including the new ones.  So I give it 8/10.

That does it for this post, tune in next time when we finish our 9AM hot dogs.
