The Casagrandes: Season 1: Going Overboard/ Walk Don't Run

The Casagrandes  Nickelodeon

The Loud House got a spin off.  The character,Ronnie Anne, who introduced in the Loud Houe showed up a few times in the original series and in season 2 was moved away in a special called "Loudest Mission : Relative Chaos"  where she, her mother, and older brother, Bobby , moved to the city to be with their extended family. Interestingly enough for the Loud House this wasn't a one time episode thing; it was permanent change. Eventually,  it was announced their would be a spin-off series.

During Season 4 of "The Loud House" the first few episodes were given over to the Casagrandes as a slight preview.  (Which we will cover at some later date before the year 2025.)

This series premiered on October 14th 2019 on Nickelodeon.

Ronnie Anne, Bobby, and their mother. Maria. Live with Maria's mother and Father Rosa and Hector.  The rest of the family includes Ronnie Anne's Aunt and Uncle  Frida and Carlos, and cousins : Carlota,CJ, Carl, and Carlitos.  There's also Ronnie Anne's friend , Sid Chang, who was introduced in Loud Season season 4 episode 1.    This is a quick descriptor, otherwise this would be a really long post.  (It wasn't already)

Much like the parent show, it has themes of family and friendship.  This is our journey with "The Casagrandes"

        Season 1  Episode 1a : Going Overboard

Setting up part the plot it's Frida is doing an art installation and her husband Carlos is going to be part of it.  Ronnie Anne  wonders why there is a scratch on her skateboard. This leads to the night where she gets her answer. (It was me, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!)  She chases a hooded man who took her skateboard. This turns out to be her uncle Carlos.  (dun dun dun) He's really good at because as he says in his backstory, he learned in college to use it as a way to get around campus. He had the name Carlos X.

Carlos says the reason he stopped was because Frida was worried about him getting hurt and since they had kids that would be bad.  (He's going to get hurt isn't he?)   Ronnie Anne asks him to teach her some tricks. They work together on sneaking out at night to learn some tricks and make sure Frida doesn't find out. It's  nice to see them bond over skateboarding as the episode progresses.

Carlos gets hurt. (As I expected, and yet I didn't do anything to stop from happening; now I feel bad.) The rest of the episode  is Ronnie Anne helping Carlos hide his sprained leg. Remember that thing I mentioned about the art installation? Yeah, they didn't forget it and it's part of the plot as  Carlos has to jump on giant calculator. (Because he likes math)   Carlos tries to keep up the appearance of not having a hurt leg , but that goes as expected.   The truth comes out and Ronnie Anne takes the blame for it.   The art gallery guy is a big fan of Carlos X and he gives them a second chance for a new art installation.

If you watch "The Loud House" then you already know these characters , at least somewhat. So, if you have never watched that show  does this episode do a good job at giving us a taste of the characters? It gives us a look at one of Ronne Anne's interests which in this case is skateboarding.  What it does with Carlos is give a glimpse of his personality as more cautious person. It shows his interests  right when the episode starts you see him reading a book,  and later he gives a fact about the creator of the skateboard. It subverts the family expectations and viewers with showing that he can skateboard really well, which I think is a great touch.   The other characters, you get a grasp of what they are like from their actions and interactions as well.

Much like many Loud House episodes; there is a slight predictability to how an episode is going to go, at least to extent. I think the bigger thing here is to see how they use that to tell the story and not to see how the story goes.   The journey here is to see how the Ronnie Anne and Carlos bond with each other in an interest they both have in common.   It's a good episode  an 8.5/10 episode.

    More after the Jump

            Episode 1B : Walk Don't Run

In this episode, we get Ronnie Anne's Friend Sid.   Ronnie Anne is skateboarding again. (I'm sensing a theme, also K-pop, help me!)  Meanwhile  a gaggle (not a legal term) of cats destroy Ronnie Anne's skateboard.  A neighbor has a hurt back and the girls help him walk his dog. Setting off the plot.  Ronnie Anne wants money to buy a new skateboard, while Sid wants a life-sized cut out of  Yoon Kwan.

The girls walk Nelson , the dog, (ha ha) and start walking other dogs from around the neighborhood because they want their money now!  Carl makes an appearance to make a deal to walk the family dog, Lalo,as well. (He'll be back later)   Maybe they have too many dogs. The things the owners told the girls about their dogs comes in to play in the episode and aren't just throw away lines. Why do I say that?  Remember the cats I mentioned? They're back again and they cause a commotion and the dogs get free.

Now, they have to find the dogs, and they use the information about the dogs they received to get the dogs back. They also start losing the money they collected having to pay to for different things.  The dog catcher in the start wasn't wasted either because they have to pay him too.  (Also, have to mention , that Carl is an evil genius)  So, the girls are back to walking one dog and getting the money the slower way.

Remember folks, don't bite off more than you can chew. Another good episode. Ronnie Anne and Sid have great chemistry together and it does feel like they are actual friends. The episode is fun (not just because of the dogs) because of the interactions with the neighbors, the dog chasing, and the funny moments thrown in.  I give it 8.5/10

I think these are some good starts for the series let's see how it goes, tune in next time  when we walk some dogs and put them in an art show.  (How is this different from how we do posts in on Jol, Even I'm here, what is this?)
