The Really Loud Nickelodeon
Episode 18: Game Night
I personally think a weakness in this show is the romance centered plots, they haven't been as strong and feel partially cringe inducing at times. Though part of that is how the idea kind of puts a weird black hole of suck a plot. Though, I could argue that it's main animated counterpart series also doesn't do romance well either in a different way. The other part is writing Lincoln's character and writing how he is a dumb 12-year-old boy, which isn't impossible. He doesn't know how love relationships work - then again who does fully understand that?- it makes for oft stories.
This episode also straddles that line and adds Clyde. Lincoln and Clyde both have dates with the girls seen before, that being Zia and Angie -respectively- but it's a sitcom so spin the wheel: there's a family game night.... I need more... there's a family game night where Lincoln and Clyde have a streak of winning. Now of course, in our own human minds they could have done this two ways , they decide to go on the date and let the streak break , or break the dates and try for the streak. There are other nuances too, but telling the dates what's going on would also probably crater a plot so they have to do it sitcom way. At least it didn't go with Clyde and Lincoln some how running back and forth between a date and the game night.
The chose is to convince the dates that the surprise is the game night and decide to include them in the night. Then it becomes paired Lincoln and Zia and Clyde and Angie, but apparently they don't work well compared to Clyde and Lincoln. The duo convince their dates to switch partners and Clyde and Lincoln start winning but at the cost of causing their dates to leave after awhile. All this episode really is doing is telling me that Lincoln and Clyde should be dating. Like if this was a written paper and making a case that Lincoln and Clyde should be a dating couple , I would believe it. The boy send up deciding to go talk to their gfs and fix things because sure. The rest of the family comes in to also help. That was the core plot, it wasn't bad or oft like many of the past romance plots, it's getting better at them? It's not a strong plot, basic sitcom stuff, but not bad. The animated show wouldn't have done it as good as this either. It's alright , I found it enjoyable, but does seem to repeat itself in the series where Lincoln and Clyde (now too) seem to get wrapped up in their own whatever they forget the other person. Heck, Lincoln and Clyde have gotten wrapped up in their own whatevers they've forgotten each other -before.
Was there anything else? Well there's some loose stuff. The family game night was pretty funny. Lisa and Luan's teaming was bad. Bad meaning they weren't a good team, but still funny. Lynn Sr. wanted to win hard, that was a thing. I don't know what the reason for the dragged out Lola and Lana argument over cake was, wasn't funny it just was dragged out. Lynn Jr. had some funny stuff, though the loser button thing did go over a little much.
It's an overall alright episode. There are some weak parts, but it has a nice core to it to hold it together. Only a few things I found I didn't like. Once again, not a long post, because there's not much I didn't like, there's not too much I think could be expanded upon.
That's it for now, tune in next time when we wonder how things would have gone if the family played Wheel of Fortune instead.
