The Loud House: Season 3: Episode 9b: Missed Connection and 12a: Gown and Out

 The Loud House Nickelodeon

Ah yes, um, I did the other episodes connected to these before, it was actually our first season 3 post ever. So, yes in this case, I'm doing the ones that were paired with these now. (You can read 9a/12b here

Episode 9a: Missed Connection

The saga of Lori and Bobby hit a change in season 2, when Bobby was put on a bus. (sent into spin off land) The show would do a few... meaning a couple with the Casagrande family character focus and this one is kind of that one. It starts with the classic (that word is holding a lot up there) Lori calls Bobby to talk to him. But there's a crisis. Bobby can't answer the call because he has to clean up a mess at his family's store. He goes to call her later, but snake reasons, Lori didn't answer his call. That causes Bobby to doubt first.

Eventually, she able to call him, but the call gets awkward and they don't know what to talk about.  This episode uses the fun of split screen. (yay!) I do like it for the story telling here, it's showing Bobby and Lori talking to a family member about how they feel they screwed up with the other.  They worry that the distance is getting to them. It is fun to see their parents, on Lori's side,  and his aunt and uncle on Bobby's side, try to help their member there.

Plan B or something, Bobby orders a Pizza for Lori that's heart shaped, but it was a surprise- so she didn't know about it. Lola gets it and eats it along with Lana.  Lori tries to make fake newspaper , but that gets (minus 1pt for being gross). They both wonder why the other didn't say anything about their gifts. Plan C.  Bobby was going to send Lori a USB stick of a video he made through the mail, instead of Dropboxing that thing to her, or sending  Google Drive share link. He deserved his plan going down, when Carl switches the sticks with his own stick.

Bobby wonders why she didn't talk about the video, but Lori did call him for a virtual date.  They try watch a movie together on their computers, but that doesn't work either. There's only one thing to: that's go see each other. They had the same idea and oops they both went to see each other at the same time and not able to see each other. (what a twist)

They do end up seeing each other when Lori makes up to Bobby at her house, and makes sure to tell him not to leave. (Finally some good action here) They try to have a romantic day, and first Bobby tries to break and entering. It seems all their plans don't seem to  work.  (Imagine having a restaurant where everything is in the dark, that was stupid)

They eventually star to wonder if breaking up is the answer. (which would have bold if the show had done that) Bobby gets locked in the bathroom at Flip's and has to wait for the fire department to break through. This gives the two time to talk to each other. They realize they love each other and the one phone call just kind of spooked them a little.

It's a good episode for Lori and Bobby's relationship bond and wanting to show the characters are more than just teen loves. The episode is simple, but sweet and it works to bring out a good story that can be relatable, but it really fits these two more than anyone else. It's sweet to see how they work to make sure they are able to stay together. The episode shows how well they click and even how they can think nearly the same. The split screen makes the episode fun to show some of the events being similar. It's a charming and well done episode. I give it 8/10.

More after the jump

Episode 12a: Gown and Out

This is a Lola centric episode and this one focuses on her more pageant-y pageant stuff. It starts with a pageant happening and Lola winning, which seems to be expected. (Like me making a remark in the parenthesis of a post)  Then there's news and Lola has qualified for a region pageant meaning south-east Michigan.

The episode also finds away where it's going to be with Lori being the one who will be taking her. Anyway, Lori is confident and meets some contestants (that's the word right?) who seem to have more accomplishments and fancy stuff than her.  This brings an interesting wrench in the issue for Lola, she's not used to competing with those on a higher level than she is, there's a winner of the nationals there, for example.

This brings her into a state of worry that she might not be good enough.  I like how she calls Lincoln for help too. They showed in the episode earlier how he knows pageant stuff from helping her. She expresses her problems to him, he tells her that she's gonna win, but she thinks up a different idea. She fakes being sick, puffy and blotchy. Thankfully, in cartoons being sick and covered in make up blotches are the same thing.

Lori decides to not even go to the spa and spend time with her "sick" sister. (sweet) That wasn't part of Lola's plan, so she has to deal with it. It is a nice thing to see Lori help her sister out and do some good work.  The guilt of Lori spending money on her and things makes her reveal the truth. (Thankfully, I thought she had the gout)

Lori understands and helps her understand things. Lola decides she wants to compete and there's even help from Lincoln via video call. This was a nice bond between the three. It's also nice to see Lola lose (odd thing to say) because it makes sense that she might not win because she's not as experienced as the others, but she did put in hard work, and she understands it's alright to lose.

This is a good episode. There's good story for Lola putting a highly confident character into a place that shakes her confidence to help her understand to still do her best was well done. The episode flows well. The character interactions are nice: Lori filling a nice role to help her younger sister, Lincoln's parts were fun and worked well. I like that the other girls didn't seem mean to Lola, but were kind of like her in their own high confidence. It's a well done episode. 8/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we bring back Cingular wireless.
