The Really Loud House: Season 1 :Episode 4: The Banana Split Decision

 The Really Loud House  Nickelodeon

Episode 4: The Banana Split Decision

The Loud parents are going to parent-teacher conferences , which they will have to do for 9 of their 11 children.  The stakes are the parents put up a deal if the at least a small majority of them get a good report; they will buy a giant cartoon sized  sundae.  (Like congress)  Lincoln feels confident that they will be able to get over the line of 5-4 with Lisa, since he didn't turn an essay. You can guess where that goes.

The treat of this episode is the parents having the focus and interactions with the teachers. So it does start well with Lucy's teacher mostly because of a monster that she summoned made sure Lucy would do well. (That's a sentence there) There are some nuggets of surprise through the episode like how some of the sister results go against what you think it would go. I think that's what it makes work well. I liked thinking how it was going and seeing it go a different way for the sisters.

After Lisa's result doesn't work out as Lincoln thought, he decides he needs to that essay and hope that Mr. Bolhofner, his teacher, would be pleased enough. He goes to the school with his paper and somehow that beast Lucy summoned is there at the middle school and takes Lincoln's paper. A spoiler, because I am kind of disappointed that was the last time  we see it and there's no pay off for a later joke, oh well.  Lincoln tells his teacher about the beast and he doesn't believe it. (That's why beast attacks are high)

Lincoln decides to bribe the teacher after learning with Luna that she did the same. I like how it falls flat with Bolhofner.  The parents' part has a running gag of them running into trash cans at each school. There is a manic fun to them going to schools and trying to beat the clock, you do see the humanness of these parents who have 11 kids. There is a difference that this show (and the animated version)  from others where the parents aren't like disconnected, but they do have to stretch their ways by 11.

More after the jump

The Loud sisters are watching the status through Clyde reporting it. The smaller bits they bring in the episode adds a little fun. Lynn forgetting to stretch, Luan talking about how she stretches then messes up her neck. Lisa knowing about comedy , getting a nice moment.  This brings a little fun to the episode and the environment.

Lincoln decides to kind of make it seem like his parents are a mess, or more than they are, to gain some sympathy.  When the parents come in looking like Lincoln described them and it works. He noticed that the plan worked too well and his parents are being dressed down by the teacher he decides to pop out and defend them.

The speech is nice because Lincoln understands his parents do a great job, for people with eleven children. They put their earnest work in. I did like how the parents decide to give the kids the giant sundae. Their kids aren't perfection and they aren't perfection but they all try their best and that's really the point.  The episode is also fun because you see the characters and how they interact in school and situations. I don't fully go with it having to be like the animated show, but it does know the characters well.

The writing is great in this episode and really this show so far is doing a good job. This episode was an enjoyable watch and has a good mixture  of heart and fun.  I give it 8/10.

That's it for now, tune in next time when we summon a giant sundae and then throw it away after one bite.
